Caught on a Texas Rigged worm of all things. I didn’t think it was a bass, judging by the fight, and when I got it near the boat I told my partners, “Its a turtle”. We were fishing right at sundown and all I saw was a broad, dark thing that was wobbling as it tried burying itself in the weeds.

I am not 100% sure it is a PB, but it is going forward.

Because it was dusk I adjusted the levels of the photo so you can see more detail of this cool member of the catfish/bullhead family.

Funny thing is my nephew had an incidental catch of one a little smaller about a month ago. We are thinking about becoming bullhead guides.

That is an awesome fish! Cut 4.25″ off it and give it to BK for this weekend!

Neato catch. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a brown bullhead come up (several hundred yellow bellies but never a brown)

You have multiple partners? Nice bullhead anyhow…

    Looks like a short flathead.

Isn’t the MN record brown something like 7 pounds?

Sounds like the Everts banks are going to be pretty full of anglers for the Off the Wall Fishing Contest tomorrow. A friend of mine is digging out his “fishing chair” just for this.

    Nice bullhead.

Wow, just realized those are two words you don’t often see adjacent to one another. Except in Iowa, of course.

    C’mon. Somebody had to.

Except in Iowa, you’d get run out of town for using fancy words like ‘adjacent’.

The record is 7 pounds. I highly suspect that fish was a very rare abnormality mutant. They are the bigger of the 3 bullhead species, but to beat the other 2 by 4 pounds?

Check out the wide range of state records. There doesn’t seem to be any geographic region that is more suited for bigger ones. It just seems random. Maybe because they are less common and not as sought after?
