New to Flathead fishing just wondering if anyone of you gentlemen could give me a good location to start fishing from shore. Ive been fishing channels at the coon rapids dam for a few years but lately they are getting small.
A friend of mine has a place three or four docks north of the 94 bridge on the st. croix where I can pull a few sturgeon or large channels from but I am itching to snag one of these monster flatheads. It would be nice if this was a good flathead spot but I’m guessing my best bet (from what i have read) is below the ford dam?

    Welcome to Ido!

    Couple questions for ya.
Do you know how to clean a flathead?
Do you know about the Private Message (PM) system on Ido?

Most of the guys that use the shore fishing spots wouldn’t be to happy if they were posted in the open forums. If they did give you a spot, it would be their best friends spot and not their own! LOL!

Just one more question. When you fish near the I-94 bridge, what are you using for bait?

I have been a member of a few other forums so I should be able to figure out the pm system and i do understand Nobody wants a crowded spot (figured it wouldnt hurt to ask).

Mainly a large sucker minnow for cats med sucker for eyes and the sturgeon love a big fat crawler.

Use google earth or a county GIS site and look along a strech of river to pick out a few good looking spots that you can get to. Use a plat book or a county site to figure out who owns the property to get permission. If you don’t mind toting your gear a quarter mile or more you can get to some decent spots on most any river. I’ve done this on the MN and Red River quite a bit before I ever owned a boat. The Miss can be a bit tougher though but not impossible.
