    AIS team,

Greg Ganz, who represents some of the key upper river transportation interests who use the upper-most locks on the Mississippi River, is prepared to meet to discuss how we might work together to achieve items of common interest. This is the discussion I mentioned last week at our meeting.

Most likely, we are able to immediately agree to work to achieve deterrents on Lock #1 (and/or Upper Saint Anthony) and Lock #19 in Iowa.

Please let me know if you are able and interested in joining in a discussion of this at the Keys on Roberts Street in Saint Paul, this Thursday at 8:30 am? Several folks would make a nice group to represent our AIS/Carp coalition.

We can discuss this further tomorrow on our call.

In case anyone has the time or can afford to go. I need to work to pay more taxes.

PS there will not be anyone there to represent the angling public. Once the locks are closed, it won’t take much to install the electric barriers and fishing this area as we know it will be gone.

fishing this area as we know it will be gone? how so..you can always put in on either side of the river and fish, right? Are you saying there won’t be any fish upstream of the falls anymore because it is killing some sort of migration route?

I’m saying, once the guys in the black hats have the locks closed, it’s going to be easy to install the proposed electric barrier. Once this happens, we will not be allowed to fish up or down stream of the barrier by two miles. Bank or boat fishing.

Boats under 22 feet in length will not be allowed in this area and if you do happen to fall out of your 23 foot boat, you’ll have a 50/50 chance of survival.

BTW if the lock is closed, why install an electric barrier?

Have you SEEN the vertical jumping ABILITY ON THOSE GUYS? I was just down there “fish r biting” and was thinking it would take a quite a leap to get up and over.

I would assume the barrier is to make sure nothing passes up stream.
