Looked through some comments and I had no idea that a Southern Drawl was also a written language.

suma ya’ll are just sad … upset cuz a couple fat boys ate a fish and prolly some far more important stuff is passin’ right under your nose & you could care less
there’s more and bigger fish in texas waters than ever before & ya’ll act like they are almost extinct … that sounds like the stuff washington dc is shovelin’
I think it is funny when people say who cares if they kept it, they ate it. Kind of missing the point in my book. Would these guys be angry if they kept it and used it for fertilizer? Or pig feed? Or just tossed it in the yard for the raccoons?

It’s hung up by a rope or something…
He looks like he could be 138. Especially next to the 400lbs on each side of em.
You know it kind of looks like it is hanging from a scale…. so I wouldn’t doubt it too much.
I read the rest of the forum on that cat and it struck me as they were talking…which is true. It`s great if someone shoots a trophy buck, and eats it but not alright for a trophy fish??????????????????????????????/
Personally I think that is apples to oranges. The biology isn’t even close between mammals and fish.

I can see both sides of the argument.. if it’s your fish you caught it.. but deer mature and grow a heck of a lot quicker, and well..you do you have to shoot a buck to get it…catch and release isn’t much of an option.
I generally think eating anything over 15# in this area is bad juju (Mercury arg!)
All in all, if you catch it, and it’s within the confines of the law, I agree with you, you can’t give someone beans if they want to eat it. However, if they are just going to kill it for sh*ts and giggles, I probably wouldn’t hold much respect for them.
As far as using fish for fertilizer or doing whatever with them.. I think the bass population and over zealous mini pannies would fill your gardens troughs faster and remove less fantastic fish from the environment for all to catch.
No one argues the right to keep a fish here. But they do argue what is good for the fishery.

Which I personally respect, even if I didn’t quite directly state it in my allegory. Monster fish should ethically be returned so others can enjoy, and since keeping them for food is..sure a lot of meat but bleh meat..
But either way sounds like this one died on the trot line from reading the thread, but I could be wrong.
really, the guys are entitled to do what they wish as long as they observe limits and size regs etc. That’s the rule.
I don’t know with a fish that big and that old how much it is still contributing to the gene pool there. That’s the interesting question. If it’s still a healthy, reproducing fish…that’s some awesome genetics!!! Hate to lose those qualities…
Again, they’re entitled to keep or release though. Of course, that’s a lot of contaminant build-up. Wonder if they’re familiar with the phrase biological magnification.
Would you like a side of hush puppies with those PCBs? No thanks for me…
