im in the market for a new sturgeon rod. i need something for a boat, that can cast a little more weight than my current rod. like 1oz-6oz rating. i was looking at the daiwa heartland muskie 8′ rod. seemed to fit the requirements but no store near me carries it so i cant get a feel to see if its right. like every other sturgeon guy, id like a sensitive tip, strong back bone, and a fast action. any ideas? right now im using a powell 765 punching/frog rod. first time out it caught 3 keepers. 48″, 51″, 63″. (in that order). if you dont believe that rod bass rod will hold up check out this video below of me bringing in that 63″ 75lb white sturgeon.

It seems many of the heavier bass rods have the back bone to handle a good sized sturgeon but what they lack is the handles. Not big enough or long enough handles to get a good grip of to handle these strong fish.
