Thanks to all the MN Catfish and Sturgeon Alliance members, the Catfish Workshop Members, the MN DNR and a special thanks to Steve DeMars for the work to make this a reality!

Mike, thanks for recording this for all to see. I know it took over 8 hours to render, plus uploading.
Thanks again and I’m not just saying that because it’s your birthday.
Meh, the only work I really did was one crop of the clip, boosting the audio and adding the title. The rest was all Steve.

Great work guys!
Pug, you sure do have a lot of birthdays.
The doctor kept taking one look at me and pushing me back in. He only delivered me when he had no choice.
I just got the chance to watch the whole video presentation, and I have to say god bless Steve and anyone else who had a part in his presentation. Very well spoken and reasonable. Let’s hope the DNR takes it seriously.
Thanks Steve, BK, and Mike!
Its really hard to observe how the audience accepted the presentation since I wasn’t there and the video doesn’t show the crowd… however there were plenty of rounds of applause during the presentation that I have to take as a positive response.
I loved the fact that Steve asserted himself a few times. I’m not sure if I’d have reacted that way… so tip of the hat to Steve for holding his ground.
Awesome job all round!
It is nice to see catfishermen being taken seriously and being given an opportunity to speak in an attempt to make change. Good for you and I hope it all works out.
By the way, one of the things I love about flathead fishing is how nerdy we can get about our bait, Steve you exemplified that in the video.

Being in the room I thought the response was very positive. I figured it was going to be lukewarm with a lot of people not paying attention, but that was not the case. I think Steve’s attitude endeared himself to the crowd.
The deal was that every presenter before him went over by at least a few minutes with their presentation. He went last, so everyone else cut into his time. And it was probably a good thing that it was Steve, because I don’t know of any other cat guy who would have been as assertive and pushed back.
That being said, I am sure there were a few walleye stocking advocates that were put off by wasting so much time on a trash fish when we should have been talking walleye stocking.
I can’t say enough about what a terrific approach and presentation this was. HUGE kudos to Steve for doing a totally awesome job!!!
IMO, it’s great to see a consultative or collaborative strategy here. It seems only logical that once you’re able to actually partner with these types of agencies (DNR), you don’t want to ruffle feathers by going after too much too soon.
In Illinois, we’ve been talking about what initial harvest limits might look like in a state where catfish have NEVER had any widespread protection in the past. No creel limits, 50 hooks per anlger fishing bank poles/trotlines. Seems to be all about getting the officials to take that first step… I think the same applies to working on less restrictive bait policies.
Many thanks to Pug for shooting the video! Thumbs up all around to everyone involved…
Shawn
