Mr. Steve DeMars presented or should I say walked the attendees through the process a allowing “bait harvest from infested water”.

We hope to have a video of his 30+ minute presentation posted depending on the audio quality soon.

I have to commend Steve on ensuring the attendees heard what the catfishermen of MN had to say. The MC of the round table signaled to Steve that he needed to wrap it up. To which Steve politly but firmly replied…

“you can stop waving your hands at me, the catfishermen have waited a long time to get here and since we might not ever get invited back, I’m finishing the presentation”.

That was paraphrased, but pretty close.

I will add that Steve’s presentation was so well done, folks with legislative connections and others sought Steve out to introduce themselves to him.

The presentation was about changing one of the laws to allow hook and line bait harvest that would allow an angler to catch bait and use it on the same water without transporting it.

As the law reads today, anglers can not catch bait, then turn around and put it on their hook in infested waters…although we could take that same bait home (dead) if we would like to.

On a side note, the Great Red River of the North is now deemed infested waters and catching Goldeneye prior to going cat fishing is now breaking the law.

I would guess the Minnesota River will be next a fairly soon.

Thanks for all your efforts to educate the DNR that there are people who fish for something other than walleyes, bass and muskies. Maybe if they knew how many trophy walleyes get eaten by Flatheads, they would let us use 2 rods on inland waters.

Flatheads eat trophy walleyes?? I’ve heard of a walleye eating a flathead, but never a flat eating a trophy walleye.

For the first time I heard a comment from the DNR that we need to protect the flathead to aid in controlling asian carp.

I’m afraid “two lines” never came up but raising license fees did…that’s a whole other thread.

In the underwater world Big eats smaller…that’s nature.

In fact one of the presenters had a photo of a HUGE brown trout that died choking on a channel cat.

To echo what has already been said, thank you Steve and others (heck, even BK I guess!) on your efforts of things such as this. It takes much effort and time, and a hell of a lot of dedication. Thank you!

Video coming. Its 25 minutes, so exporting and then uploading will take a while.

    You had the microphone.

I bit my tongue as I knew there was really no sense in piping in. The encouraging thing was that not only were there a couple of DNR guys interested in the cat guys, the seemed genuinely excited.

Who all from IDO was at the roundtable? sounds like quite a few IDO members were representing the cat guys for it being an invite only meeting. Or was this an open meeting?

Dennis Steele who is a member of many sites and got lost…so he didn’t make it.

MPLS Pug was there as the Audio/Visual guy

Myself (I’m allowed to bring along 2 people.

Steve DeMars was there representing the Catfish Workshop Group.

Steve was invited by the DNR for presentation purposes.

I think many of the cat guys cross over web sites.
