    Hope you don’t mind finman…

I used your photo to punk a co-worker who thought he was cool sending me a picture of a sturgeon someone he knew caught.

It wasn’t that long ago when we would go nuts by landing a 50+ incher.

    Congrats!

I’d still go nuts with a 50+ incher but those are sure some beasts. Nice fish, finman!

I am learning that I need to keep my fingers out of these fishes gills. Old Muskie habits die hard but I won’t be doing that again F.W.I.W.

Still frames from the video, thus the facial expressions. Rdwheeler landed this 66″+ (measuring stick went no further) last weekend at the Sturgeon Excursion. A girthy beast to be sure; a real chunky girl. Met some great IDO folks up there.

We were warming up for the St. Croix sturgeon opener last weekend on the Minnesota. My Girlfriend caught this 3 lb Shovelnose shortly after making her first cast of the day. Can’t wait to hit the big water for the Lakers this weekend!!

A number of sturgeon have accidentally made it into my boat over the years but this is the first time I’ve targeted them. BK has offered up some nuggets of wisdom from time to time on targeting these and I paid attention. My angler for the day Jerry had never caught one before and after two hours of dunking worms on the Wisconsin River on day one of Wisconsin’s sturgeon season 2012 he got this one. Not the 7 footer we were after but he was proud.

Well we got out on the St. Croix early at 7:00 to beat the traffic. It was slow all day, but we managed to find a few. This one bit on a crawler/fathead combo in about 20 FOW. We fished transitions near 40 foot holes closer to shore to avoid the tuna boat traffic. We weren’t able to fish more ideal spots, but some persistence and a good nap paid off.

I got one too Joe! Just a small one compared to the 45″er above, but fun nonetheless.

Note to self, next year pay attention when BK says ‘LOL weekend traffic’ about the St. Croix. What a freakin’ sideshow that thing was yesterday!

15 fish last night – biggest was this monster and my personal best at 60×23. Launched 3 times completely out of the water – what an amazing fight!!!
