My personal best and by far the best fighting baby. She was caught in about 12FOW, it was a hot and muggy night and didn’t want her out of the water too long so I didn’t get a weight. It felt weird when I stuck my hand in the gills to hold her , it was an experience.

Isn’t there a .05 deposit on those bottles in IA?

    Nice fish Moxie!

    moxie… nice fish!

As far as having them out of the water for too long, the cat in my pics just above yours rode home in the back of my buddy’s Explorer SportTrac. An our drive plus the loading time at the fishing spot and the stop for gas.

It was still flopping and hopping around when we got back to my place. ~90 minutes out of the water. Trust me, you can take time for weight, length, girth, date/time and location. Log those babies so we can feed the info to the DNR. They want to be on our side, but we are making it hard on them.

    Did I mention NICE FISH!

Thanks Armchair, we have something similar here in Iowa now that I visited their site. Hopefully I’ll get a response soon but from now on I will keep a log.

Wow I received a reply from DNR.. too bad they’re not conducting the survey.

Though we were developing plans to survey catfish anglers in Iowa a couple years ago, we abandoned those plans for several reasons. We may conduct the survey in years to come, though none exists at the moment. I will keep your contact information in my file.

I am curious to hear how you found out we were surveying catfish anglers? I did survey several tournament groups in southwest Iowa a couple years ago (Lake Manawa and Union County), and had designed a survey. Is this the survey you have?

If you would like to voice your opinion on catfish management in Iowa, or have questions regarding the same I would be happy to address them. My contact information is below.

    Thanks for your inquiry.

Ahh, you’re one of our Southern brethren. I didn’t realize you were from out of state. I was referring specifically to the MN DNR, but heck, keep logging. Someday when they do decide to survey they’re going to get 4 years worth of fishing records from you, and THAT is money.

Nephew with his 30.25″ fish. He forgot his scale. Anyone want to guess so I can ballpark it for him?

I forgot to say I caught a smaller 24″ that had a treble and dip bait tube stuck in his mouth. I was able to get that out and release the fish hook free.

Phigs would be proud of my mosaic.

Caught a few last night from the Mississippi in my neighborhood. The river is only a 10-minute walk down the street from my house, which is great beacuse I’m w/o wheels at the moment. Catching ’em on cut chub and frozen shrimp.

Man…those males are sure skinny and beat up right now. Caught one the other day that, I think, would have went near 10 pounds but was so beat up and skinny it probably wouldn’t have tipped the scale more than 7. Caught a female also that was really healthy and strong. She was about 6 pounds and very nice looking. Males must be garding the nest or maybe just off that duty.

    Good catch…Ken

I’ve heard smoking stunts your growth, but I had no idea pictures without a smoke makes you shrink! Nice fish Phil!
