In all aspects of what you want/need in a rod blank, there are NO BETTER blanks made than StCroix.

    You pay less,you get less.

    JMHO

No doubt you pay less you get less, in most cases. But for rods I like, St Croix is the last on my list to buy. I have found some nicer blanks that are discontinued and got them for dirt cheap!

As for made in USA vs China. It doesn’t matter to me.

Click, I didn’t know you build rods.

What are the blanks that you like better?

Let’s stick to cat fishing as rods are a pretty broad subject.

I have only built a couple flat head rods if we are talking about catfish. I have a couple graphite rods that you buy off the shelf, and i have built on a couple E glass blanks.

First glass blank is my go to rod, its blank is practically identical to the Catfish Safari rod. Second is gator blank. Both are good rods.

I mainly rely on clicker and rod tip more so then feeling the bite. Although both these blanks have NO problem transferring the bite through the blank.

I also understand someone might prefer a graphite rod, or a composite mix, or straight up e glass.

For me I can build a decent cat rod for under 60 bucks with certain e glass blanks. I also make my own handles so the only cost is guides and reel seats.

My bait catching rods consist of Kistler Blanks.

Trying to stay under $60 for graphite is well, impossible.

I’ve used a number of glass rods and keep drifting back to graphite. I like the feel is probably the number 1 reason and I can “feel” the bottom and what it’s made of better with the graphite.

With the way our cats bite, almost all rods will transmit the bite…I think.

Clicker, have you ever tried the Team Catfish eglass rods? I know Bob Moore sold a “ton” of them…pardon the pun. Yeah, they are more than $60. as well.

If you catch the right deal you can. I have bought 100$ blanks for 20$ because they are no longer made and had a surplus of blanks. The sad part is these were some of the best blanks ive ever built on and i only bought two of them, when i should have bought 10!

heard good things about the Team catfish, but i will continue to build and not buy store bought!

One thing about the bright pastel rod colors… you can still paint the tips white for night fishing! (Not that you would necessarily need to – Mary’s is pretty bright already).

    devil made me…
