Hello everybody. I was thinking about getting my lady a nice rod for xmas. I’m looking for places that have decent custom rods. being able to choose colors is a huge plus. the lady likes her purple, not pink and every rod geared toward females is usually pink. thanks for the help

You have a PM . I have just the rod for your wife

To have a purple rod made it would have to be painted by someone I have never seen Purple blanks.

I have had Aaron at fishingfreaks make me a couple of rods. I was very happy with them. You get to pick everything, brand, length, tip, color, eyes, handle, everything. He also will do a custom inscription on it for you. You can contact him at http://www.fishingfreaks.com or just give him a call 612-508-9943

If it doesn’t have to be custom you could look at the Mojo series from St. Croix. I have one and I am pretty sure it is purple. She will catch all the sheep head and catfish while you catch all the walleyes… bonus

I’ve worked with 4 different custom rodmakers in the past, and have been most satisfied with the results from Thorne Bros. by far. In fact they’ve actually taken a rod from another custom maker which I was unsatisfied with, and worked to fix what they could to my specifications. The results, workmanship, and quality – incredible.

Their selection in regards to materials is unsurpassed (read-as they can get blanks/materials you and I cannot). Their experience and number of rods they have built can’t be touched; in other words, if you request a rigging rod – they’ve been through the process a thousand times before. They know the questions to ask, the blanks and guide options that are standard vs. the ones that are preferred for the specific applications you have. They can do an unlimited array of colors, wraps, styles.

Whenever I’ve come to them for a custom rod, open-water or ice, they’ve always given me a run for my money in terms of what combinations I’d like and why. Good luck in whomever you go with, that’s a fun gift!

If you are looking for catfishing rods, buy her an ugly stick and paint it whatever color you like.

It’s really easy getting a custom rod. Pick who you want to do it. Go meet them and pick style, color, length, brand, guides, reel seat, wrap and any personalization you want.
Whole process will take you maybe 1/2 hour, hour at the most.

They will give you the cost. Generally a down payment of 50% is required. Tell them when you need it by. (If you want it by Christmas you better get going!! )

This is a very special gift your wife will never expect. It is something she will use for many, many years to come.

you can buy kits with different color rods at mudhole for pretty cheap. I could build you one for around 100$

well we had some issues going on and I decided that the first year catfisher lady didn’t need a brand new custom rod nicer than anything I own. but I have this saved so when I decide that I need a custom rod I know where to look.

my bad I didn’t realize I was in the catfish forum at the time. The colored rods are mainly an IM6 graphite that is more for lake fish. Cant really find colored rods in catfish style. But you can get some eglass blanks for pretty cheap. You can paint them as well but I have never tried that.

still some cool stuff you can do with OUT needing a pink rod blank. Wraps real seats handles can all be pink.

St Croix. Trumar has all the info on them. He built both of them. It might be in one of the above posts.

Looks like it’s in another thread.

Yeah, they have pulled in some flats but I wouldn’t recommend it as a flat rod. More of a channel/sturgeon rod in my mind.

    Trumar, where are you?

No big deal. Anything that says St croix on it is out of my budget anyway. I have one st croix blank I built on. Guess where it is???? Collecting dust on the rod rack because I have made better ones in my opinion for a lot cheaper.

In all aspects of what you want/need in a rod blank, there are NO BETTER blanks made than StCroix.

    You pay less,you get less.
