Wife Kathy and I went out this evening Water temp was 63 deg and stage is below normal. We anchored in 14 ft of water above a wing dam loaded with wood. Bait 3 poles with live bluegill and one pole with a bluegill head.
After a short wait the pole with the head started to get a bite pecking away like a channel cat. The clicker took a short burst then stopped. I picked up the rod and when the line tightened I set the hook. I said to Kathy it feels like a good one and it was. After a good fight we landed this 39 inch 32 lb flathead. We had two other on later on but lost them to snags.

    Very nice catch Dave!

Now why didn’t you let your wife catch it?

Great flat! Nine times out of ten you can tell the difference between the way a channel hits as opposed to a flathead, but there is always that one time…

Wow Dave what a monster fish. I’m glad to hear you finally got a really big one. I hope I can get down there yet this fall to go out together some night.

Nice Flattie Dave. Looks like you’ve figured something out. It’s always good to catch a biggun, but you did it in daylight and that’s a bonus. It’s neat to watch them fight, when they make a big run, come to the surface and spash around and you just know it’s a big old Flathead…must have be a thrill.

Good job on that one. Sorry to head you lost two others, but even a lost flattie is an accomplishment…at least you knew you were on them.

Thanks for the report and pic’s.
