MIMI – no friggin idea what that means. I assume from context that it is referring to a specific vessel that came too close.
Exactly…
Nope BK, I don’t think leaping overboard woulda helped. You’d still be turned into stink bait for sure.
She may have been more that 150 feet away from me as she passed by, but you know?
I was anchored in the exact same spot as I was last Saturday and she came between myself and shore.
She’s pretty tall.

Perfect.. now that; I understand
Just hold on there little doggy…
I seem to have a few items of the dark craft tackle,in a dark corner ot the old tackle box.
How’s the tuna boat exidous coming? Has this weather made the seas a little more tolerable?
Some day I hope to get some use out the stuff, if she will let me.
I was talking with my buddy and he said he’s surprised that no one has been fired at for driving too close. I told him I don’t think it’s legal to discharge a firearm on the St Croix, but he’s pretty sure it’s legal because it’s not within city limits.
So who is right?
It would never be legal to fire at someone no matter where you are. And the type of person that would do that probably wouldn’t care if they were in the city limits.
DT
If your anchored and your motor isn’t running, it’s legal to discharge a firearm…(duck hunters do it all the time)
HOWEVER…see post above.
Yo WWG (W-a-s-t-e W-a-t-e-r G-u-r-u for Jeff)
I checked with the Sheriff about Amber Flashing lights. No problem while anchored.
I shot an email to the Coast Guard…thought there might be a concern that a submarine was surfaced on the St Croix.
I’ve ordered a type 906 flashing amber led for my extra anchor light stick. We’ll see how this works.

Watch everyone be out there over the next few weeks with warning lights and the Cos will tag you guys, not the cruisers, for some goofy rule about using lights other than anchor and navigation lights.
Can’t find any place that reads “no other lights” in the CFR’s.
But checking to make sure.
Oh sorry, I should have been more clear. I do not know of a rule. I should have said “for some goofy rule no one is aware of”. And I should have been way over the top and said something about MN and WI having different extra light rules.
Quote:
Submarines are required to exhibit amber flashing light… not that you would find a submarine in this area.
Rule 20 of the Nav Rules – section (b) The rules concerning lights shall be complied with from sunset to sunrise, and during such times no other light shall be exhibited, except such lights as cannot be mistaken for the lights specified in these rules or do not impair their visibility or distinctive character, or interfere with the keeping of a proper look out.
So yes can use other lights as long the other party doesn’t mistaken for another type of light. Either way if a Amber flashing light was displayed you would think the other boat would stay away.
I just know in civil suits that even if you’re vessel that got struck and you were not adhering to all of the Nav Rules then that vessel is also partially at fault.

On the other hand each operator MUST take any action necessary to avoid a collision. I believe that’s Rule 13 of the Rules of the Road for mariners.
I have seen the excursion boats go by at night and they have hundreds of party lights on from bow to stern. When I am anchored up I run a power inverter and light up my fore and aft fishing positions just so that it is easier to fish.
