August 30, 2011 at 7:32 am #991800Very nice video!!
I said to myself while watching the video “about 35 pounds…but I’m going to bet they’ll say 50!”
Nice job all the way around with handling the fish and double kudos to the camera man!!
It made me smile!
August 30, 2011 at 1:19 pm #991834Nice fish. Take it that was pool 4. Would like to get a hold of the audio for that. Think I could use that laugh in a few places.

I will post a link to the You-tube version for those of you who don’t have Face-book or can’t view it on your phone.
The video was posted on Ron Lindner’s Face-book site. James Lindner was the Camera man and I (Jason Aleshire) was the one who caught the fish.
You are correct, the fish was 35lbs and 42 inches – we mentioned the weight of the fish in the video prior to release.
Yes I was using a glove to cover the cuts on my left hand from the night before. Should have been wearing it more – could have prevented the cuts in the first place. You’ll notice I release with the right hand. I accept all crap given to me on the subject.
Yes, the fish was caught on a bass rod/reel. We had three other heavy duty flat rod/reels with bullheads in the water, the fish bit on the only channel cat cut-bait rig we had out – to my surprise. I always use heavy 7” bass rod/reel combos with 20lb Hi-Vis Sufix Elite for channels. They have handled the 20+lb Red River cats perfectly for years and they are a lot more fun.August 31, 2011 at 1:36 am #991994Quote:

No kidding. I’ve caught flatheads on cutbait there, but not nearly that big!dtroInactiveJordanPosts: 1501August 31, 2011 at 5:33 pm #992093Sorry bout that, no offense intended about the bass rod and gloves reference. Just a long time running joke amongst catters.
To be quite honest, I think gloves are a good idea and I’ve reached for them a couple times after a long week of flattin and the thought of more pain (after turning my paws into hamburger already) didn’t sound like fun.
In fact, just this year I finally got a bad enough wound from one that it looks like it will turn out to be a permanent fixture on my hand (hasn’t fully healed since May). I figure those that want to wear a glove have either never caught one and are unsure, or have caught tons and know better. One of the two. Either that or like me and just too lazy to dig out a glove and put it on.
As far as the Bass Rods, you must have handled those cats up there on the RROTN during slower current. We watched several boats using those sticks up there a few weeks ago, and they always ended up pulling anchor and chasing because they were way undersized. We watched one person fight a 20lber for well over an hour.
Matter of fact my heaviest Flat gear was tested to its limit more than once and I thought something might break if I pulled any harder.
