Knock’em dead (red)!
I’m hoping to dance with the channels and anyone that comes with me on Wed evening for a few hours.

“Sonny” of Sonny’s Super Stick actually retired and the family took over. A long long time user of Sonny’s was telling me just last night that he found 2 cases of the “old” Sonny’s because it’s better. I didn’t ask him what “better” meant.
Kev, you notice any difference in your blood over the last year or so?
Almost forgot, the photo above is a Team Catfish product in the wide mouth tubs called Secret Seven. I’m guessing Jeff might have had some doosies too.

Uhhh, knock em dead red looks kinda pink on my screen
August 16, 2011 at 12:40 am #988491Do you have a problem…with PINK?
That photo was from either last year or the year prior. It’s not a Team Catfish hook either.

. Just a pinch between your lip and gum. I prefer a little gob on a Ritz cracker. The real serious caters by me make their. They all start with a cheese (sour) and add their secret stuff. Several years ago a friend and I were striking out until Brian eased up to a light weight flat bottom maybe 12′. Front half floor was littered with 2 1/2 and 5 gal buckets in various stages of sour and all had a number painted on the lid. Brian leaned into the guys boat and bargained for a small quanity of a certain blend. Money was exchanged and a jar of stink bait number ? Came into my boat. This replaced my Sonnys original. This bait turned the cats on for three consecutive mornings. I have not seen his outfit at the launches I use on the WI river lately. BK have you made your own flavor yet. He also suggested to sour a 5 gal bucket of grain and use to chum your spots before you fish it. I will stick to Sonnys original but will sour a bucket .

Yeah, I’ve never really taken myself to seriously.
I’m kinda partial to the “dead” cheese baits. Some of those “live” concoctions out there have a tendency to explode…and I don’t think Jesse’s Favorite Woman will let me spend the night with them ’cause I sure as ‘ell wouldn’t even try coming home.
Some people like making their own sinkers when it’s less hassle to buy them, others would rather buy their flathead bait than to go catch their own.
Me, I fish in the summer. I’ll leave the stink bait manufacturing up to the guys that like doing it.
One of these days I’m going to have to make a trip down to Iowa and check out “the” factory.

When you do, swing over here and check out the best cat pool in the area. 50-100 a day when the river inst roller coaster-ing… problem is they are all 12-15″.. I cant seem to find the big ones.
August 16, 2011 at 7:01 pm #988744I’ve noticed no difference in the blood bait other than the high water 3 springs ago has put out a year class here that is unbelievable. I am averaging 27 inches a fish with more over 30 than ever before.
August 16, 2011 at 7:03 pm #98874518 cats on sonny’s blood and orig, not a bite on s7.
I couldnt manage to get a hook in them with half a tube on a circle hook, or J hook.
August 16, 2011 at 7:14 pm #988750ROCKS about 10′ of water (second drop off from the bank) where the current is swirling. Miss is still high so cant fish the channel without catching weeds every 5 seconds, gotta get on the current break.
August 16, 2011 at 7:25 pm #988755I would stick with Sonny’s BBK.
FB, I’m fishing the currents seams on the inside bends and a area just below a normally dry sand bar that had a bazzillion clams just below it. (sound familiar?)
That’s one thing nice about stink bait. If you don’t at least get a bite in a few minutes…move. Seriously, with the exception of last Sunday when I caught the first fish, before I could get my rod out the FW had a fish on.
August 16, 2011 at 7:49 pm #988761year classes will run together and that is a classic fiddler kind of bite. Move. My lake here though I often go hours without a bite and I don’t move very often. The spot is an ambush and having a slick out there is half the battle. fish will come from a long ways away to visit your chum line. On the river though I’d move after 10 minutes of bites that aren’t solid bites or if I’m getting small ones all the time. Fish closer to structure and those smaller fish get chased out of the best fishy spots.
August 17, 2011 at 12:52 am #988829On the MN last weekend, we were catching daytime channels off flooded sandbars in about 2-3 FOW right at the edge of a drop to the 8′ channel. On Sonny’s Blood

Same here except we fished some flooded timber.August 17, 2011 at 11:43 am #988952Channels are big minnow chasers and thats why a shallow spot will often produce when thier not hitting in the deep water. When they don’t hit in deep water look for an area where minnows would be to get out of the current. Alot of times they won’t be as big but there will be nice ones mixed in with the smaller ones. People might be surprised how many big fish come in shallow at night to feed on crawfish and minnows, just a few inches is all, under a foot of water. During the day in that same area and thier in just a few feet of water especially if theres cover to give them a rest, then they come in shallow again at night. Weed lines and willows are a favorite spot because thats where the crawfish are at. A crawfish at night anywhere near a place like that and they hammer it. You take a small crawfsih about 2″ long on a no. 3 or 4 hook, through the tail and keep your eyes on your pole. Shallow water spots are a big favorite of mine, especially at night when they come in to feed in shallow water, and they come into feed in the shallows almost every night.
If you can find a spot where theres alot of limbs and flood debris laying in shallow water, say 2′ too about 5 and even deeper try fishing around those limbs and trees. Minnows and crawfish know they need cover to keep from getting eaten, catfish know they are there and come looking.
