O.K. I have a place to get bullheads and I’m going to go out and try some flathead fishing, the only thing is I had picked some spots that would be good in a normal river flow, so I’m wondering how flatheads shift gears with the high water we have had all year. Am I looking for slack water, side channels, back waters, any suggestions would be great, thanks

the water is dropping on the Minnesota, so I imagine the other river is coming down too.

    Sippi,

Work over the same areas you normally fish. I’ve had very good success fishing these areas with much faster water than I thought flats would like.

    X2

I was actually waiting for someone with more clout to say this. In June I was actually looking for the fastest current in a section. Flatheads have that shape for a reason.

And I owe it to Brian for showing me to not be afraid to fish fast current. Part of my problem before was seeking eddys. I may still fish eddys, but in the fastest part of the seam.

I used 6oz back in June when it was really cooking. The other day I was able to get away with 3oz using cutbait.

I never left my trusty 4 oz no-rolls. ‘Corse even a slow flows I use my trusty 4 oz no rolls.

I did have to adjust the tension on the 7000’s as the larger 8″ bullies would have their way with the line out alarm.
