Secret 7 Question

I just opened 2 new jars of secret 7 and quickly found the bait will not stick! I never had this problem before, but its lasting about 15 seconds in the mighty miss before the bait is all gone. Tried dip worms, tube, and sponges, I’ve never had this happen to any other dip bait other than G&S (too thin and runny).

I’ve been fishing dip bait for 15 years and the only time I’ve had a bait not stick is when its too runny when hot out.. this stuff isnt runny at all, perfect consistency IMO.. not too thin, not too thick.. but wont stay on the hook!

I even tried in a bit of slack water, figuring it was the current and it still came off in less than 30 seconds.

Temp was 80, water temp 83, bait kept out of the sun.

Any idea what to do? Picking up a tub of sonny’s blood tomorrow, I know that will stick.

Let me do some checking. I’ve never had that issue as it’s comparable to Sonny’s as far as staying on the hook.

    Did you stir it up?

Didn’t stir, but I folded it in on itself for a couple minutes to work it loose so I could dip it. Wish sonny’s would come in those wide mouth buckets, might throw the S7 in an ice cream tub and use those tubs for sonny’s in the future.

Is there something I can add to make it stick better? I cant flour it, it would be way too thick.

My tubs are down at the river…which I’m not.

I know they can be replaced if you like. Team Catfish stands behind their products.

Sonny’s does come in wide mouth buckets.

The little tubs, the 1#ers. Most places charge more for the big tub than it would cost to get the same amount in jars.

Farm King has the 3or4lb buckets. Not sure of the cost since I don’t use the stuff.

    These are one pounders.

Sonny’s comes in a jar that makes it very hard to get out after an inch or so is gone. I think the Sonny’s tubs are 20 or 24 oz.

Sonny’s should just get rid of that jar…or the customer should expect to change containers.

All this stink bait talk is getting me wound up for the weekend!

You can get it in Burlington Farm King in the 15oz jar and the 45oz pail. Used to be able to go to Farmington where it is made and get a 5gal bucket.

Ol’ Pete still comes up to Everts with a 5 gal pail.

Trouble is the pail can’t be used for much after that.

I get my Sonny’s blood from catfish connection in a 45 oz pail $12.15 and the pail is much easier to use than those stupid jars. Keep your dip baits cool if you can. When they get over 80 they all wash off easier. You can add a little flour to firm them up without any issue but keeping them cool works better. I’m on my 5th 45oz pail this summer… You can also get some sudden impact fiber bait. I’ve had some success this year dipping in sonny’s and then the fiber an oreo cookie so to speak. I’ve had some success doing that. More often when on the river you make sure you don’t click the bail until the bait hits the bottom. I find super heavy current areas are not the best place to use a prepared bait. Most of the bait washes off on the way down and the way back to the boat. Your bait may be sticking fine and just washing off when you retrieve.

Alright I watched the secret 7 tips for the 3rd time and maybe its not runny enough? In the video his bait starts out like mine was, and he said to add oil to make it sticky.. I figured as hot as it was, that wouldnt be necessary, but the bait never did get runny. I’m going to take a tub today and add a little oil while fishing and see if that doesnt help. Dont understand how other tubs stuck but these two wont, but I havent given up on them yet.

I know the cheese they and others use will change the color of the bait, but I didn’t think it would change the consistency either.

Interested in knowing how this turns out.

I’m off this weekend to that the FW out with a pail of Secret 7 and another pail of Sudden Impact fiber bait…unless she backs out on me.

Ok, I got it to stick some. I added 1/8 cup canola oil to the 1lb tub and it got sticky.. stayed on a decent length, but not as long as sonny’s. Me and my buddy fished 4 rods, 1 with S7, 1 with sonny’s orig, and 2 with sonny’s blood.. all with same tube and weight.

18 cats on blood, 0 on S7, 0 on orig. had 3 hits on orig and s7 sat motionless the whole time.. I think they wanted BLOOD today

I dont think S7 was bad, since they didnt hit the sonny’s cheese either.. I think it was just a blood kinda day.

STILL HAVEN’T GIVEN UP ON THEM YET!
