Got out the other night with a fellow IDO’er, tried 2 spots before we got our first fish, went 17lbs on a 8″ bullhead. Hooked into another one that got off due to my dog getting in the way of another mans beer..lol. We got 1 more out of that spot before calling it quits.

Nothing worse then a dog in front of another’s beer.

    Nice fish.

Bullies working better than creek chubs or suckers?

Nice to see the MN turning on. Will be out on Saturday night if all goes well!

What type of structure are you guys targeting?

Had my bait up in the willows when I caught that one, maybe only a few feet of water. I know it’s been said before, but if you look away from some of the deeper holes as the night goes, you should be able to find them in shallow water taking advantage of the forage.

The other night or last night? We got out and blanked last night, but we left when the sun went down.

Although there’s never a bad time for fishing, if I can’t stay out until at least 11pm, I seldom go. I count the daylight fish as a bonus.

We already decided before going out it was not going to be a late niter. It also didn’t help our “bait store” had no bait and we were trying to catch some to put on the line.

Looks like next year I a giving in and build some sort of tank.

I find it comical that the P2 guys are coming this way and hammering them, and the MN guys (like myself has a launch on the MN 1/2 mile away) keep going to P2.

I guess as long as I keep pounding them over there, it’s worth the drive.

Back at it again tonight. Putting lots of miles on…

I live 1.5 miles away from the launch on the MN, soo why wouldn’t I fish it?

I should have gone with them the other night, instead I stayed on P2. Caught plenty of fish but nothing with any size. Highlight of the night was a 27 and 29 inch walleye in the boat.

I will definitely be heading back out to Jordan this weekend though. A lot less pressure out there, with the high water, that is for sure. But that is to be expected…high & fast water is not for the amateur river fisherman….

I was talking about the good Doctor.

FYI, might want to turn off geotagging. It’s a pretty popular spot, but the Latin Kings like to hang out there, be careful.

It’s odd though because, the nearest launch to that spot is closed due to flooding, and I was the only boat at the next nearest launch. Hmmm

2 boats out tonight in Carver (had to wade out to thigh high water just to launch) and I can assure you the MN is anything but on fire. Probably one of the worst July’s since I’ve been cattin.

Maybe I’ll hit P1 or P3 this weekend, not many spots left on P2 I guess.

    really the latin kings….

I would run from anyone weilding a large cat rod. That almost worse than a golf club. espcially with a big weight attached…

I guess Ill be weaving in and out of boats attempting to get to my spot come tonight and saturday.

Hope to see you out there freeman unless you just want to go with…

Every once in a while I like to get out catfishing, after all I am a walleye guy living in a cat fish world. I was going to just hit the Croix being as it is only 2 blocks away but I heard/read that the MN was on fire so I went out there Friday night and I can honestly say it did not disappoint. I was a little hesitant to go out there at first being I could only fish one line but I was assured the bite was so hot thats all I needed. After some grumbling I gave in and off to the MN we went. I have to tell you the action was so hot we only needed one line. I can’t wait to get back out there next Friday, I sure hope the fire stays lit cause its going

    OMG you guys are hilarious.

The water is currently flowing out of the banks, there are launches that are closed, and others that are a major PITA to even try to launch. You can find a fish or two, but mostly it has been skunks for everyone I know. That will obviously change in a couple of weeks, but right now, good luck is about I can say about the MN.

I have a launch 1/2 mile away from my house and have been willing to drive an hour each way to find a decent bite somewhere else because things have been bad here. I could really care less if people come from all over to fish the MN, suit yourself, but for anyone that knows me, I’ll tell it like it is, and apparently some Miss folks don’t like me being truthful about my reports in fear of people flocking there, which I find hilarious, because of the immense size of that body of water.

So here’s a genuine report from somewhere you can actually find a few fish right now….

10 minutes of having our bait in the water and this spunky guy ate a big piece of cutbait.

After that the bite slowed down a bit and gave us a chance to engineer a new cooler seat for Scott. Then he decided to put on a channel cat clinic for the next few hours. Followed by yet another cut bait Flatty.

I was jealous, but Rob “eff cutbait” Rushing wasn’t very impressed and stubbornly kept his lively large bait out there and thanked us for weeding out the little guys.

Sure enough, a couple hours later, Rob’s Tica Reel absolutely went straight to 4th gear and found 5th and 6th after setting the hook. A few minutes of drag pulling fun later and he was posing with this dandy 42×26 35lber.

That fish found his way into my line and made a huge rats nest. So as he was unhooking it, I was trying to figure out the best place to cut the line, but out of nowhere felt a nice tug on the line I was holding. So what else….I set the hook with my hand and sure enough there was a fish on the other end and I had to hand over hand it. Was just a little Flatty, but still pretty fun.

Then, 10 minutes later, Rob caught another 15lber that was “too ugly for a picture”

A couple more channels, and then it was time to head home.

That was a pretty good bite on the Miss, but not even close to being “on fire”. Now when you are getting 20+ flats a night and burning through 3 dozen bullies, THAT’S a bite worth going goo goo over and making some noise about, and IMO anything less then 5 in a night is average at best….and for the record I haven’t had one of those yet this year. Plenty of 5’s this year but nothing more.

But then again, who really cares, good times, good friends, good eats and good memories will trump a hot bite any day of the week.

Well not entirely. They have that area “tagged” pretty well and I have first hand knowledge of a few high ranking members who had lived nearby, but were deported back to Mexico. Probably just some kids goofing off down there now, but my reference was more of a tongue and cheek “inside joke” response to the geotagged photo.

My nephew and I would probably be interested. Maybe a 35W launch contest? We launch from Lyndale too.

    Latin Kings?
    Come on now….
They are a bunch of nice fine young latin teenagers who hang out in the MN river bottoms and don’t bother anyone.
    They just like spray paint!
I know from experience, they are quite friendly if you strike up a converstation with them.
(If you meet any of them ,say Hi from fishhead!)

Best to make friends before enemies!

Yes latin kings. a few years ago my wife was closely acquainted with a high ranker through the school system. That was until he got thrown in jail and deported.

I didn’t totally believe her until he was on the news one night.

But back to hog hunting, only 2 mn flats for me in august so far. Probably 30 hours of hard fishing.

You gave up on P2 at the perfect time…. The channel bite has tapered a hair and the flats are on the pick up.

Caught this little guy somewhere on the Minnesota, despite its bad reputation..

Edit: I wanted to add that in the past 3 weeks I have yet to see any signs of the Latin Kings.
