It can be hard to tell what’s going on with the spawn at times – you get the scarred ones that tell you something is up, but it’s never too black and white what the timing really is since the males will be on the nest for a couple weeks after the spawn occurs.
Well tonight I got as good a confirmation as you can get. Caught a 32 pounder (pic is from cellphone, sorry) and after working out how to get a picture since I forgot the camera, turned her over to get a good look and she started drooling eggs out all over the boat. Put her back right away after scolding her to finish her business before she goes out for snacks!
