Mendota strikes again and a new PB

Mudshark made it to Madtown this evening for a night of chasing cats (when he wasn’t needing to go potty). The night started out slow and I was about to call it due to zero bites. Then at 10:30 I had a lazy bite which didn’t feel very big until it saw the boat and took off like a shot and took a good long time to get it back. Kind of a poor picture but 31×16 is still a hog by most standards. Rebaited and got back out quickly. Jeff was pulling in one of his lines which was tangled and I got another bite. I set hook and this time I knew it was a good fish. The big girl decided to head for the anchor rope and managed to foul 5 of our 6 lines in the worse tangle I’ve seen in my boat ever. She came to the net in a big tangle of power pro and measured out at 33 x 19. So I dropped it in the livewell and began to cut and retie. We had the third retied and back in and Jeff was giving me some light when I saw he had a bobber down. He set hook and the fish took drag and kept on rolling. I thought he might lose it. He couldn’t stop it or turn it and had 5 or 6 big drag screaming runs but he played it well and we finally got it in taped out a 34×19 estimate 18lbs and new PB for mudshark. 3 bites 3 fish all over 30 inches. Been a long time since I had two fish over 33 inches in the well at once. Lets do it again soon. After getting shut down last week due to high winds and no fish where I could fish I feel like July is going to be awesome here. Lake Mendota is loaded with big cats.

PS thanks for the smoked Tullibee.

That was the best picture you got? That sucks. Pictures are all we CPR guys have. Well memories too, but mine is poor.

    Nice job guys.

    Pug,

I wish I could blame the photographer. My camera is supposed to flash when it needs to but the mooring light in the background throws it off at times. I have couple others of it, one where my head got cutoff another where the control peice was behind the fish. I’d need to see 40 inches to beat my PB.

It was a GREAT time Kev Fishing with you is always a pleasure

Although it was slow at first at least we got to listen to the game.

It’s too bad I was so damn tired…I think if we could have stayed longer we could have managed a few more…sorry about that.

BTW I did not get home in 1 shot….Had to sack out in the wagon for an hour

Your more than welcome for the Tullibee…I hope it was still tasty.

Here’s to the next time bud

Nice job, Kev. I guess I better get after a few bigger channel cats before you run away with a big KOTC score.

Nice job Kev. Wish we had those guys around here. Keep the reports coming, fun to read after a night out where i got only a single 24 inch flathead.

The only way I’m going to get channels like that is with a long drive one way or the other…so I’ve decided to go north. Way north. Unfortunately, the lockport fish don’t count for KOTC but they’re fun.

Pretty darn nice Kitties Kev & Mudshark!

It’s always nice to get in on some decent fish when you invite someone from a ways away. Last thing you want to see is a slow night on one of those trips.

It is a shame when you don’t get a good picture but it does happen. Sucks when it happens and all you can do is remember what went wrong and try to do better next time.

    Congratz guys!
