I found myself in the boat Friday with CLWuensch. Curt’s the guy with the awesome sausage in case you haven’t heard. His friend John the “catfish man” was along for his 65th birthday.
John and I got along well…very well because he’s a catfisherman. How do I know he’s a catfisherman? Easy, it says so on the side of his boat he said and that’s good enough for me.
Curt the walleye guy was out numbered. John and I were polite, we waited until Curt finished with his walleye stories then started to talk about real fishing.
John told a story about his wife and her expensive graphite cane pole. In a nutshell a muskie grabbed the blue gill on her line and she became so startled that she threw the pole in the water. They did eventually get the pole back by just waiting until it surface and motored over to it and picked it up out of the water.
It was at this time I made my fatal comment, “I’ve been lucky, haven’t lost anything out of the boat yet.” You would think I would know better. It wasn’t very long and I was watching the red of a headlight moving ever so steady down stream.
Although I can’t prove it, I think the walleye guy was behind it.
How was fishing you ask? Well, we looked at the Sirrus Inland weather when the lightening alarm went off and decided to head in at 10 pm without a fish to record in the MN DNR Catfish Diary.
John and I will be going out again. That’s a sure bet. Just in my few hours with Curt and John, I could tell they have a special friendship.
John’s one of those guys that everyone likes
…with or without a headlight.
