With Jeff (the walleye guys) post in the general forum, I was wondering if the price of fuel has impacting our little world.

You guys getting out as much as you normally do or cut back because of fuel costs?

I didn’t get out as much early, but I blame that on the cooler temps.

the cost of gas is actually causing me to do more Cat’n. Typically I would be taking weekend trips up north and into Canada for eyes and muskies. Now, it’s one night of catfishing per week. In the last 4 years I might have gotten out cat fishing once or twice a year. This year I am trying to get out as much as I used to in my teens which was every Fri and Sat But the FW has been winning the battles so far.

I don’t consider fuel when it comes to catfishing, rivers are too close to where I live and the motor sips gas pretty well. Time is my enemy right now, I never seem to have a moment to sit still for a couple of hours even if it is late.

The price of gas isn’t keeping me from fishing. The lack of having a boat is.

lhprop1 you need to get a hold of some of these Metro guys. There’s some bigguns caught from the comfort of a camping chair!

Anyone seen 85 Lund around lately?

Nope, the price of gas hasen’t got anything to do with catfishing here. All my good spots are within 5 miles of my front door. A late warmup was the blame here, I’ve got alot of places to fish from my boat but been fishing from land for the last few weeks I guess just because I go there every year. Heck I haven’t got any excuses, I just haven’t gone out on the river yet but will as soon as I get my boat and trailer tags. If the water stays relatively high its going to be good creek fishing at night with dittypoles and if it doesn’t its still going to be good.

Nope – still burning up the octane in the ole outboard. Too many commitments and not enough time generally plays a significant role in the amount of hours I spend on the water – or lack there of. I’m on-call so it looks like I’m bringing the briefcase and CrackBerry out tonight.

Have I just been Pigeon Holed?

I may have to just take my new Snoopy rod and do a little catfishing around town.

New bait laws and lack of energy has put a damper on my catfishing, not gas prices. Lame excuses, but it’s a lot easier to fish with lures that I already own that to deal with bait.

I drive almost 100 miles a few times a month to fish the Minnesota with a buddy, and am dragging the boat to Everts this weekend. Not much will keep me from my hobby. It would have to get seriously bad to keep me from chasing the whiskers..

nope, i’m running a different boat for cattin’ this year, and that 6 gallon tank is much easier to fill up, and lasts plenty long!

Not really but it does factor in. I was looking for a new boat hauler this spring and gas was going up and at that time it was all over the news. Of course I totally wanted a suburban to leave all my junk like a portable garden shed but the $$.

No, cattin is my cheapest fishing. There are 4 river launches on the MN river within 9 miles of my house. So, it’s pretty hard to complain.

It’s not like winter when I get bored and then drive to Mille Lacs, spending a solid 60 bucks in gas or whatever, plus a meal or two, just to catch tullibees, and then repeat three saturdays out of four. Not to mention that is right after the horseshoe chain ice-cattin dies down, which usually has me driving up past cold spring at least 6 times in December/January.

i live a stones throw away from some big channel cats so im after them 4-5+ times a week but for flatheads i got to drive a ways to my spots on the croix but its been lack of good weekend weather, high water, and a boat motor that was actin up that kept me away from mr flathead but im gonna give it a go this weekend!

High water an unfavorable reports for me. I haven’t really targeted cats much in the past but plan to this season.

I’ve got a huge sturgeon itch to scratch that I need to target something with wiskers until September.

Just waiting for favorable conditions on the croix and the sippi.

I’d love to sit on in a lawn chair and watch the water roll by, but I don’t know of any spots to go? Any metro guys want to fill me in?

It keeps me fishing the MIss vs. driving all the way to the MN…..but does not keep me off the water.
