Upgrading Reels

It is time to upgrade my reels. I run the Okuma Epixor EB 60 and 80 Series spinning reels. You get what you pay for. Good reel if you are just getting started and don’t fish them much. They wear out fast when used alot and have drag issues.

So I have started the upgrade to the Quantum Cabo PTs 60 and 80 Bait Teaser series.

Anyone have any thoughts on this or use the Cabo reels?

my brother runs quantum reels…their new reels are much improved from the older ones i used. the best thing about his is the drag but i don’t know what model it is… i can personally suggest shimano sedona or sahara. about $60 or less for a great quality reel with a good drag. they have lasted me about 4 years now and still going strong.

They look like nice reels, Joe! Great option for the spinning folk.

I know I came across a cat guide online who couldn’t say enough nice things about Cabo reels. It is a Quantum, you can’t go wrong.

I personally love the Okumas. I don’t like or use the baitfeeder, so I don’t ever get that option. For the price of the Quantum, you can buy three Okumas. There is no way the Quantum lasts three times as long as the Okuma, IMO.

I use my hand a lot on the spool, so I don’t rely on the reel’s drag for much of the fight – I keep it set on the light side. That could be why I haven’t run into drag problems on my Okumas.

Let’s say it lasts twice as long. I hope when my first Okuma went out it wasn’t on a big fish.

I love Quantums because I still have a reel I use for gamefish that I have been using 15 years, if not more. And let me tell you people, I do not take great care of my equipment.

Nothing wrong with Okumas either though. The one I got second hand from Bob still works like a charm.
