scale said 32lb 06oz. but she was one of the fattest ones i’ve seen in awhile!
Hello all
OK before you start bashing I don’t normally keep the big boys but they are draining the lake (I am not happy!) so I figured better to have them go to a good cause than to rot. I like to pole fish but the rules were relaxed so I ran lines baited with the biggest bluegill and crappie I could find. WOW—unreal….over 500lbs. of fish in 4 morning runs! The sad things is the crappie are big the bluegill are big and the catfish are big and the state says drain it!!
Yikes!
I hear what you’re saying, but that’s just gross!
Got room for all that in your freezer?
What the heck they ruining the fishery for????? NIce fish. I am a little jealous. I refuse to harvest, but that would be a great reason to finally try some flathead.
I was drift fishing last weekend using fresh cut bait and as I drifted into the deepest part of the lake I tied into a whopper. All I can say is he felt REALLY nice! I fought him for close to 45 minutes before I lost him. I couldn’t get him to surface so I imagine he was caught up in a snag or just BIG?? I guess I will never know what it really was.
7 foot MH ugly stik, 65 lb power pro, Daiwa millionaire 300 my line ended up getting wrapped up in my troller and my anchor line…..I didn’t have my anchor reeled all the way up.
Not to make excuses but I was by myself and like I said my pole was doubled over so getting the motor up wasn’t an option. Things just don’t work out every time. I guess that is why we get so wound up when they do!
Must be for dam repair.
I pulled in a 51 pounder by myself once. When I released it a 14 pounder hit the other rod.
One of the few times I was wishing the bit would have been slower!
They are going to dredge it and they are not going to stock flatheads…
The bite picked up last night. Got 3 but nothing big yet. A couple from the last couple weekends at the end. So I’m catching more numbers than usual. No bite marks or bloody lips yet.
Little better bite last night. The cats all came in scarred up from the spawn. The larger one was 39″ but only 24 pounds which suggest to me that it’s finally starting to eat after the spawn – looked more like a starved male than a spawned out female to me. Things could be getting good soon!
Good night last night – fishing with nephew Ben and his friend. We nailed the bait early, so had time to goof off and catch northerns for a pickling batch. Then approaching dusk we realized we lost most of our bait – almost a tragedy. Luckily they were still hitting well so we were able to restock. Cats were slow and steady – 5 cats, 103 pounds, I think we missed 4 hits too. The biggest was 32 (mine) and my nephew’s friend upped his PB from 11 to 21. I also got a 23 pounder with a ton of spawn scarring.
Nice! I love the color on that fish. It almost looks like a marble statue.
St Croix, 2 August 2011, 44″ X 32″ should be about 48# from the Flathead Conversion Chart.
not sure where the blood came from, the hook was in the corner of the mouth.
