For anyone who fishes the Coon Rapids dam but hasn’t been up there for a while, the spillway north of the main channel is a lake… there’s no peninsula at all. The water’s actually high enough to be up on the concrete apron of the chute at the south end of the walkway.
However, I was there last night and had a 10″ sucker about 6′ under a cigar bobber just screwin around to see what might be in there.
I didn’t hook up because I have a problem with premature enhookulation, but something took my bobber down and peeled off about 30 yards of line. The bobber popped up and then submerged again but when I set the hook all I felt was it popping free from the sucker.
Anyway… the water in there is probably a good 30′ deep in some spots. The spillway is shut down but over on the main channel (I HATE it when they do this) they have the second set of gates closed and the gates closest to the north bank wide open. It’s amazing to see that much water moving that fast in circles.
