50′ and 48″ was the biggest for our boat. We did have 2 in our party that went well over 60″, Sauger may have pictures of those beasts. One, on the DNR conversion chart went 73#!!

We toughed it out Saturday until after dark. It was tough, but I had enough Dos XX to get us through. It was a very enjoyable trip!

    Then….I got home….
I went to the car wash to wash the road slime (But leaving the sturgie slime) off the boat. As I was stepping over the hitch with the spray hose, my right leg catches my safety brake cable and I went down HARD! All 400 or so pounds of me…on my wrist, elbow and ribs. I am pretty sure I have a cracked rib and a better than 50-50 chance that I have a broken wrist. Off to the Doc after work. Sauger, you remember what happened last year when I got back? My room mate Red said I either have to stop going to the sturgeon excursion, or stop coming home from them! So, next year is my last…as I will have to stay up there!

Tuck on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most dangerous, I would have to rate the Excursion at a 2.5.

    Take it easy!

Overall, how was the fishing? I didn’t make the trip. Sounded kinda cold talking to Jack Naylor.

Friday was cool and windy although the wind was coming down the river which, if we have to have wind that the best direction to come from.

Saturday we were met with rain with a little break in the afternoon and Sunday we woke up to snow and 29 degrees.

Over all the numbers caught were down from the past, but there were still plenty of large fish caught or almost caught as Millerman will attest to soon.

Francis should be posting a photo or two here too soon. It’s always a hoot catching and landing a 57 alone.

Fantastic fish guys. I to think the run was a little slow this year. We’ll maybe it wasnt the run and more trying to get the right weather and river conditions to fish in. Just like Brian said plenty of good fish to be had it might of just taken a little longer waiting for them to bite.

Yes! Exactly! I like to think the run was slow, because I wasn’t there! I like to imagine that everyone was frustrated and upset that the fishing was so sucky. Of course it’s probably not true, but being delusional is more fun than admitting that I missed out on the most awesome fishing event of the year.

Here’s the big one from our short trip on the St. Croix on Sunday evening. We forgot to put the tape to it, but it weighed in at 20 lbs in the net. We landed about 5 more juveniles and a few channels in the 5-8 lb range. Was a great way to experience Sturgeon for the first time. Thanks to BK for the pointers! Hopefully we’ll be able to make it out a bit longer next time.

Went up this past weekend to stay at Clementsons Resort on the Rainy River for a little sturgeon excursion. It was a long 5.5 hour drive and started off a little rough with the engine not starting on the boat launch due to a leaky fuel line. After a quick fix we finally get in the water and within 5 minutes katmando hooks into a 59.5 x 25 sturgeon to start off the trip. And from that point on the action never stopped. We ended up with 23 sturgeon for the weekend ranging from 21 inches all the way up to 64 inches with a total of 8 over 50 inches. Definitely gonna have to make this a yearly trip.
