Eh, I caught one of those. No big deal.

Kidding… of course anything over 3# gets my blood racing… congrats to whomever caught it.

huh, i’ve only caught little flatheads on that lake trolling cranks. nice fish! i did catch a musky out there this weekend. it was 26. inches, not pounds. but last year i caught another musky out there about the same size. you do the math, i’ve caught 52 inches of musky. not many people can say that, especially in Iowa. I think 2 26″ fish weigh the same as one 52″ fish. would you guys agree??

Although it’s warmer in IA….could be right. Aren’t they allowed to keep snagged fish there?

I’m just wondering if that crappie made it through the night in the tank.

Ya we can BrianK, in some areas of higher contrations on the Cedar, Des moine and Iowa rivers you can’t snag within 300 yrds of certain dams. The reasoning is because of the high concentrations of channels and flatheads that migrate up river and are stopped below these dams. On a diffrent note The good thing is you can’t handfish anywhere in Iowa, just guessing but maybe its because some of those handfishermen are really good at it, No not really, I wish they’d let guys handfish.

I was reading the results of the DNR’s tissue samples from various lakes and rivers In Iowa and its good news. 7 lakes there is a warning of slightly elevated mercury levels and 5 inland rivers. Those warnings are for one meal a week for gamefish excluding catfish. The tissue samples evidently from catfish are cleaner for them then the walleyes, smallmouths and Northern pike tested, that was a surprise to me, I thought catfish would be in there but they weren’t. Some of those rivers are in N.E. Iowa the Turkey and Volga where I smallmouth fish. I was surprised in the results of those two rivers because thier springfed and run cold and clear, the upper reaches on both are stocked trout water. Chloridane levels are all within standards except for 2 small impoundments because they stopped its usage 20 years ago and still the amounts are so small you can still eat one meal a week. The DNR here has adopted a safer scale of numbers and test for smaller amounts in all chemicals that are below federal levels, thats good to know, thier even more restrictive then federal levels the way I read it. http://www.Iadnr.com
