After frustrating searches looking for the history of Catherine (Kath-r-ine) Pass near Bay City WI, I sent an email to the Pierce County Historical Association.

At one time there was a Big and Little Catherine although the Little Catherine filled in many years ago. Big Catherine is very shallow at this time too.

They were used as short cuts to Red Wing, the WI Back Channel and Goose Lake.

As far as how they were named Francisco, the folks at the Association couldn’t find any reference or people still around to give us an answer.

This info was obtained from Lee Miller of Bay City WI.

BTW, I find the history of that area absolutely interesting!

Found a spear head and an arrow head on the shores of Everts last summer.
Found out what town was called Greenwood and Elizabeth while digging for your info… River Falls and Prescott. All sorts of tib bits of useless info that’s interesting (to me)

Oh yes, there’s a WWII aircraft parked on the bottom of lake Pepin as well.
