Wow…that is simply an amazing fish….what a feeling that would be…

I know this is kind of off the catfish subject, but it kind of relates to a thread in the bass section on that world record bass being denied….For those of you who are part of that conversation…..Look at what these guys did different compared to what that house wife did…That’s what it takes to get a world record…Thoughts/Comments..?

This is really a great story. I would like to shake this guys hand. Brian – There is a lesson to be learned here. If you are still after the MN state flathead record, we need to start working up a plan for how to keep your 100# flathead alive after you catch it. That’s provided it doesn’t kill you trying to catch it. You gotta get a plan, man. You may want to put a cattle stock tank in the back of your SUV so you have someplace to put the fish after you get it weighed. You could run an aerator off a cigarette lighter plug in to keep the water fresh. Naturally you would have to keep your vehicle in this setup for the entire season because you never know when you might catch the brute. After you officially weigh it you could donate it to the DNR and they could put it in their fresh water aquarium at the State Fair. We could even name the fish after you – Catfish Brian. Has a nice ring to it. If this guy in Texas could pull it off so could you.

Thanks Comm! I was just packing up to move to Tx when I read your post! One of my favorite sayings is “let’s think of a few reasons why it can be done”!

Dirk didn’t get to this guy with the “looking up at the moon and releasing her” thoughts. By the way…that was a great line. It should be under “best movie lines ever” thread.

Actually, I was walking through the record process. I think you could keep a cat alive with wet towls until you got to shore. At this point you would need help. Lifting and keeping her wet…forgot to mention having a CO home phone programed in your cell phone. Then the problem is to find (ahead of time) the nearest certified scale. Camera is most always with me..no problem there.

    BUT….

From my understanding, the MN DNR killes the fish to examine it. So, I have to get through that piece before I get to it.

Lucky I have a couple months to work through this!

Slop Bass…ya know…when we were having breakfast…you didn’t look to Sloppy? Anyway to your point. These guys new the was a possability that a record was in them thar waters. I would bet that they did have a plan worked out ahead of time. I think the lady with the bass well…forget the lady… I don’t “think” many people, bass or walleye ever think “what am I going to do if I hook a record today?” I just have this feeling these guys knew it was a matter of time….

Hmmm Catfish Brian….it does have a ring to it….But I have to earn my strips in ’04….”05 is when the record is going down…unless I have to kill her…

Great point Brian ….most people don’t think they are going to catch a record fish when they go out. Catfish are different though, as i’m sure DirkW might have a contingency plan? .

I think that as you can see below, i’m well on my way to breaking catfish records…I also think i’m going to change my name to “Flathead-J”. and i’m probably the only guy who “lips” a channel cat.

Hey Slop…about your lip..er picture…rather, you have to start someplace. The only differance between you and I would be that I wouldn’t let anyone take a picture of my first channel…

Dirk posted this somewhere…it wen’t something like “when my 60 lbs scale bottoms out, I look at the moon and let ‘er go”.

    God that sounds romantic!

I wonder if it will do anything for my wife?

Back to the topic, is that the normal color of a Blue? The skin looks more like a dolfin

lol….not quite my first channel, but definitly one of my finest!!

That record blue has brought up several other “catfish tales”. We’ve all heard about the divers who saw catfish the size of cars and such..But check out this article on possible the biggest catfish ever!!

    Largest Catfish EVER!!

It’s not uncommon to see blues that color…Catfish colorations in general vary alot. I’ve seen Flatheads that were brown, black, green, near yellow…

Gator, you should be able to help him…I think he’s drinking too much of the wrong kind of beer!

Although, like his quote…he maybe a fool…He’s into cat’en, trout, eye’s and crappies…so he’s ok in my book…which might be the worst thing I could say!
