Going to try to post a picture of a cat a buddy of mine caught on friday afternoon on pool 4. we couldn’t figure how to fit it into a 5 gallon bucket so back over the side it went. Any ideas on weight?

The hook popped out when he went into the net. If it was not in the mouth it was sure near by it. Looking back on a photo of the fish taken when it was in the bottom of the boat it streched almost across the bottom of the boat. I would say the fish was in the 44″ range.

I caught a 19 pound flathead last Friday down from the dam and it definitely took the jig and minnow in it’s mouth. It was MUCH smaller than the one pictured, I would put the pictured fish in the mid-thirties.

Nice Flathead Mike, my first quess at weight when I first looked at it, I’d say 35 pounds. how long was it, did you measure it. I”ve weighed 40 inch fish, which were each 30 pounds, and a 42.5 which went 36. 45 inches would be over 40 pounds. a beauty anyway you look at it. Regardless how big your bucket is, these big fish should be put back after a picture or two. the PCB’s are so high in these fish you never would consider eating one. Jack..

Once those cats get over 45 inches they weigh in at approximately 1 lb per inch. I got that from my nephew who is a self proclaimed cat fishing fanatic/expert. When I had him at the dam yesterday he caught a huge paddlefish! I asked him about the cat weight to length relationship and the above mentioned is what he told me.
Also as a side bar: My main winter time fishing partner caught a 55 incher on pool two several weeks ago while 3 way trolling with a no. 7 rapala!

I errored in my previous posting. The 55 inch cat was caught on a jig and a ringworm. Channel cats were caught 3 way trolling.
