Three spots where I have taken decent flats in the fall from shore. (Yes, it’s been a while..and the water is low)

-The downstream side of Raspberry Island. Right downtown St Paul.

-The West side of the river right under the High Bridge.

-The public access at the Lillydale Ramp. (About 1.5 miles up the road from the high bridge.)

Throw out a big sucker on a big hook with a 2 ounce egg sinker. Use a minimum 50 lb test line.

    Good luck.

    Thanks Jon

I think i now have a few places to try for cats now.. I’m glad i didn’t plan anything this weekend at all. Does anyone know anything about Black Dog Lake it’s self? it’s across the street from Minnesota river in bloominton off of 35W, i’m not sure if people are catching cat’s in the lake or the river that flows from the lake?

I recently talked to a guy who was doing very well for Flats by the Lilydale access. But…. things have changed quite a bit since then (weather, water temps, etc)

I know many people fish Black Dog lake… but I think its more a rough-fish thing. Plenty of carp to be had. I know that when theres a major flood… a number of species get transferred that way… but not in enough numbers to quantify fishing for them. I could be wrong… so it never hurts to try. Your best bet is fishing the discharges… especially the Cedar ave one. You also have the potential to score a HUGE walleye this time of year.
