    Hey Guys,
When you’re fishing for monster flatheads, do you fish the shallows near deep holes? in backwaters ? closer to the river channel? or do you fish the deep holes themselves? Any info would be appreciated…Thanks..

Yes, Yes, Yes, and yes. All will be productive at given times.

When the fish are active (cruising at night) I fish shallow shelves and bars with deep water (and cover, if possible) nearby. During the day I’ll fish in and around snags and other cover with access to deep water nearby. With the water temp dropping like it is, the fish will soon start a fall binge followed by a move to wintering holes, where they’ll hang out until it freezes.

Real estate may be Location Location Location, but fishing is Time of day, conditions, location (but people will argue the order).

I also suggest fishing shallow at night near deep water and cover. One very important thing to consider is where the baitfish are. If you find them, the flatheads will be nearby.

I should’ve also mentioned that for me, “catfish shallow” and “bass shallow” aren’t the same thing.

If I put a post on the bass forum that said, “Fish shallow with access to deep water,” I’d be talking one or two feet with a drop into 5 or 6. “Shallow” when I’m talking about catfishing means 3-5 feet with access to 10+.
