I have had a great summer fishing for flatheads, thanks to a great extent to the generous advise provided to me via this forum. Being my first year,I am curious how the bite and location of these fish may change over the upcoming fall months. Also, has anyone ever heard of hooking a “glow stick” next to your baite. It sounds kinda gimmicky to me, but who am I to say.

    Gabe,

The water is still pretty warm, and the lengthening nights usually turn on the fish. They are in the same areas and even range farther in search of forage. Cats tie on the feed bag in September and early October. After that they congregate in Wintering holes. Usually behind Dams or deep spots on channel bends. Stan Hagensik (pardon me if I spelled his last name wrong) caught his state record 78 pounder (on 8lb test) below the Genoa dam in early spring. Fishing for walleyes with minnows. You can get them in the cold but you can’t find a better time than now. I doubt Stan would have seen that monster if the water was warmer. I have noticed in the last 5 years a pause in the bite the end of August and first week of September. Stick with it. I had a September expedition last year that caught 7 fish in 2 hours the smallest one was 22 pounds.

Good Hunting, sounds like you got the fever.
