Mike W. and I were out on pool 2 in separate boats chasing walleyes and compared notes several times during the day and one thing was evident, the channel cats were crushing crankbaits all day, these strikes would make any musky fisherman envyous, you had to think about holding on to your rod tight or you would lose it. Most of the fish were between 3-6 lbs. This is by far the best way to take cats. The water temp. was 77.

Were you fishing near spawning structure? I wonder if they were males guarding their nests. They will hit just about anything that gets too close to their babies.

Ben is on it. Those would be males guarding the nest. The females are on the feed bigtime here. Friday night I had 7 fish all females but they averaged 10-15 lbs. I was out alone so only one half hearted picture of a 16lber filling up my Frabil power lock. (To follow later).

Shallow riprap and shallow wing dams.
