I fish in the Minneapolis area and have caught plenty of channel cats upstream from the Ford dam, but no flatheads. How far upstream can flats be found? Are there any upstream from the Ford dam?

I know we’ve caught them up to the St Anthony Dam…but I think that’s the end of the range.

Brian is pretty close… but a few have snuck their way through the lower st anthony dam for sure, not very many mature fish that I seen… but somebody made some babies in the last few years as there are at least 3 good year classes of young flats in the st anthony pool(98% of fish are 2-6 pouds)

I dont think there are flats of any size, in any numbers above the upper st anthony dam yet, I have never caught one above and I have been fishing it for a long time regularly for cats.. I am sure there are a couple mature fish above that dam, and small ones will start to show up in the next few years at the rate they have been migrating around here.

I wish the DNR would put some radio tags on these fish up here that would last for a while.. I have no doubt it would provide an interesting study. It seems anywhere pool 1 is involved with flatheads.. for the most part, they are there one year in an area in great numbers, and gone the next year with only a couple fish staying behind.
