I was out scouting new spots on the St Croix in the afternoon on 8 July. Picked up one small cat (22″) on cut bait. Water is 75 degrees, still high and stained but is coming down about 6 inches a day. Most backwater areas have a nice current moving through. This fish was tucked right up against the bank.

Looks like something I would use for bait.

It is kind of a runt isn’t it. I was practicing using my digital camera on timer mode. I guess that wasn’t the best fish to practice on. Oh well, I let the little thing go – what do you want from me? I think you are right though – that might be decent bait for a big Flat.

I just got back from an evening on the St Croix. Sat through some rain showers and a terrible Twins game. No luck – had three good pickups and missed them all. Water temp was 73 degrees. Water is coming down but still high. I’m going to just keep my hooks in the water and sooner or later I’ll catch something.

No more pictures of little fish – I promise. How’s this one from last year?

Sorry dude. Couldn’t resist. It is actually bigger than the zero I did last weekend. The second one is a beauty. This Friday night is the night. Tight lines.

Maybe if you could’ve lipped that little guy and held it out to the camera some, it might’ve seemed bigger?

Honestly, just good to see you out on the Croix and getting some action! That pic from last year is only a prelude to what’s coming this year………….right!?!?!?

    Go get’em buddy!

Great fish – both of them.
