Brian,
From your side of town, I’d stay on the east side of Metro, and go north on 35, around Moose lake you can take some County roads NW up to Grand Rapids, and pickup hwy 2, through Deer river, then North on 46 thru Northome. Got a state map, it is pretty easy. from Northome there are a few turns, but get over to the rd that goes right by Red lake.
or try map quest..
Jack..April 17, 2007 at 8:27 am #561565He’s got a GPS in the trailblazer ……… He might be asking for other members to see. Wish I was going, But got the parents 50th this weekend.
April 17, 2007 at 11:46 am #561580Since I’m a northwest sider I’ve always gone 169 to Grand Rapids. Follow 2 west out of Grand to 46 in Deer River. Follow 46 north to Northome. It can get just a little confusing in Northome, follow 1 south out of Northome to Shooks where you’ll turn north on 72. Follow 72 all the way to 11. 11 Is a T with a stop sign where you will turn west and follow through Baudette. Just outside of Baudette follow 172 all the way to the Wigwam, about 8 miles I think.
I think east side guys sometimes run 35 up to 33, Cloquet exit. Follow 33 up to 2 and follow 2 over to Grand Rapids.
Hope this helps.
I can’t wait.

If you take 35 up, you can take 33 in cloquet for slightly better roads..
But if you take the Moose Lake exit(hwy 73), it will save you about 30 minutes drive time. Just be careful of the 4 90 degree turns around cromwell(35 mph?), and watch for deer if your traveling up at night. 73 will run you into Floodwood and there will be a T in the road at hwy 2.

Floodwood, The Catfish Capital.
Uh huh… I recommend driving the speed limit untl you get out of town, and then make good time to swan river if you need to stop and pick anything up! The truck stop there used to have very decent food(swan river).

May I suggest…HWY 10 to Motley,
HWY 64 north out of Motley through Akeley,
64 will connect with HWY 71 south of Bemidji,
71 around Bemidji to Blackduck,
71 turns into HWY 72 in Blackduck,
Follow 72 to Baudette. There are a few turns and jogs but that is the jist of it.

I’ve never taken that route so for all I know it might be better. I can tell you that it takes about 5 hours and 15+/- minutes from Champlin to the Holiday in Baudette and is about 285 miles.
I thought I remember you saying your taking off tomorrow??? I’m leaving early afternoon. If you’d like to hook up and caravan, shoot me a PM. We’ll be stopping in Grand Rapids for dinner at the Ground Round.
April 18, 2007 at 7:21 pm #562195We are leaving my place, just north of Albertville at 12ish. Depending on how quickly I can get home from the office and get loaded up.
I’ll PM you my cell #.
