This anchor box anchor looks like it could be a great river anchor especially for those real windy days on the croix.

I thought those anchors where a joke until I read the weight of them. 70# anchor? Wow. That may even hold in hidden falls during high water. Think I would opt to pieing a jug off to it instead of hauling it in.

70# LIFT THE ANCHOR AND DROP YOUR NUTS

I made a home made that tipped the scales at 71lbs last year. I did what Rodman said when I went to hoist her in boat for the first time. So I cut half off an dropped it down to 42lbs.

Not much better. Now she rest in about 6FOW in the MN where my buddy Flathead red conveinently for him let her go.

He still swears it was an accident…….

On the MN river you need an anchor that will hold good. The water moves hard and fast. right now current is 5-7MPH. So I did what needed to be done. LOL. It’s Just my fishing mates didn’t appreciate the holding capabilities of that anchor, especially when they kept dropping their nuts…. It was a lot worse when I wanted to fish alot of different spots..
ohhhh looks on their faces was priceless, when they would hear the dreaded phrase….”Lets move there no fish here”

You guys can have those big heavy anchors!

I would rather drop 200′ away from where I am fishing and have get a lighter anchor to rab than have one of those back breakers!
I used to use a 27# navy achor that was bad enough. Nothing over 20# now, especially while sturgeon fihing in 30′ of water. Nothing like the days when you have to lift at least the rear anchor every 5 minutes!

I said i liked them anchors, not that i used them! I bet they really would hold though. I use a 25lb richter anchor and it really holds good, i also carry a 30lb old river style to keep the boat from spinning.

Dave, you must be getting old…

This year I have a 12 and a 16 lb anchor for the back of the boat…I use the 12 anytime I can get by with it!

The water spike style don’t look like much, but they work as well as any heavy anchor with enough line out. I have two spikes, one that’s a little larger for spring time and another that is much smaller for low flow times.

I’m tired of using my back for anchors when I should be saving it for fighting fish!

I’ll have to check with Everts to see what they are selling for now a days.

(no they don’t work well on shale/smooth rock surfaces)

If I a old using a 20# anchor in the rear, where does that leave you with a 12#?

Big, heavy anchors = needless suffering most of the time!

The only drawback of spikes are they get swept while dropping in very fast current. They still work, you just need to drop them way upstream if there is any depth. I have added a 10# anchor in front of my spike in heavy current situations, and it also helps get them dug in with less rope. It works well, but cumbersome to get into the boat.

Does anything work well on smooth rock surfaces?

Nothing I have found works good in current on smooth surfaces. I try to tie up on something instead of Anchoring when I can.
