I picked up the IN-Fisherman Catfish In-Sider 2007 Guide at Borders in Woodbury yesterday. Interesting article on “Baitwalking Systems”.

Yep, read it cover to cover already. I enjoyed the article about Robby Robinson. He frequents quite a few of the forums that I do and has good info to share.
I didn’t know a lot about him, but just seeing the fish he has caught, I knew he “put his time in”.
According the article he once fished 8 nights straight with out a run and instead of getting discouraged he kept fishing and was rewarded the next week with a 61, 55, and a break off. Also it takes a dedicated person to use two boats, one pontoon for the creature comforts of the long wait, and a smaller boat to place you bait in the precise location instead of casting.
One thing I totally agree with him is that you can have tremendous success in shallow water 10ft and under. He’s caught a 41lber in 16″ of water!
I caught a few last year by basically casting on to the bank and dragging it back a few feet.
ugh, come on warm weather
April 6, 2007 at 11:42 pm #558210I have to get one. How much is stuff we can actually use and not exotic cats, blues or reservoir fishing?
That Robby guy is one heck of a cat guy. I can’t wait to read about him.
April 9, 2007 at 11:33 am #558665I stumbled upon Robby’s MySpace page while cruising for chicks
Robby’s MySpaceApril 10, 2007 at 1:22 am #558908Here is another one with Robbie as well as a few other Catters. katchasers
There is a really cool one about a guy that fishes the James river in VA. Huge Cats!

Like this guy?
Show off.
My favorite tip page is this. I struggle with #5 a lot, especially when you go out alone sometimes.
Flat Tips
The other one is since I don’t have a boat…yet, it can be tough finding a good spot with timber, especially last year when the water was way down.April 13, 2007 at 3:58 am #560285He certainly catches the fish!
I just want to know how he catches that many during daylight hours. I guess if I tried I might too…but a guy has to sleep don’t he??
dtroInactiveJordanPosts: 1501April 13, 2007 at 11:14 am #560314Brian, he’s has said that he keeps them overnight so he can get some good pics in the morning when the sun comes out. The fish don’t seem to mind, and I know of one In-Fisherman video that actually recommended doing that (keeping the fish in a decoy bag). Of course that same video they were using oversized bullheads for bait
April 13, 2007 at 12:18 pm #560324From what I have read, he just ties them to a rope on the old pontoon and releases them in the morning after the pictures. He releases all his fish and I would assume he’s never had an incident tieing them up for the night them or I suspect he wouldn’t do it.
Picked up the insider yesterday. I think they did a decent job this year. No friggen article on chasing Nile cats or anything, so that was good. I showed the lady friend the article on the homemade bait tanks and informed her, some day when we settle into a house I think the baitwalking article was the most interesting. Nice piece on sinkers too.
April 13, 2007 at 12:38 pm #560330Robby has had a poor reputation among the pros I have talked to over the years. Some of the things I’ve heard.
He never catches small fish.
He recycles pictures, claiming them to be new.
He keeps flatheads tied on a rope all night. (That is the thing I don’t like.)
He only fishes one lake and just pitches baits at a brush pile from shore….not real groudbreaking stuff.
His self promotion gets old, but I think he has toned it down some in recent years.I have never talked to the guy, but I know there are a lot of folks out there that don’t think much of him. Could be jelousy though.
April 13, 2007 at 1:36 pm #560344As for the self promotion, there is a “Contenders and pretenders” video out there that I just smirk at when I see it. It is super cheesy.

I keep pitching to brush piles on shore without much luck.April 13, 2007 at 3:09 pm #560381I just pictured him casting cut bait into a wood pile in the back yard..

That video has been around for a while.
Look at the clothes he is wearing and then look at the pictures in the Catfish In-Sider article.dtroInactiveJordanPosts: 1501April 13, 2007 at 9:21 pm #560550Quote:

I think it’s pretty well known that photo’s used in articles aren’t necessarily photos from the outing or even recent photo’s. The mag asks for a photo and you give them one.
Are far as only fishing one spot or one lake, or even one brushpile, who cares as long as it keeps producing.
Look, he catches big fish, lets them go, and has fun doing it, I’m sure. What else can you ask for?
