The fish are all from this June. Jim Carroll and David Fuller in the pics were both on their first flathead trips ever. Dave scored two over 40 on his first trip!! Jim and I had 10 or so fish over thirty in four days so it was pretty good until this dang water decided to go up. Oh well, there’s lots more summer to go!!

Any general advice you can give me regarding mudcat fishing would be appreciated. Years ago I used to commercial fish (set lines only) and we almost always put those up in back of wingdams using various types of live bait. However, fishing with a rod and reel I don’t know what is best in terms of depth and location.

Sloughs, Deep sloughs, slough with current and depth, sand bars, either in the back waters or channel, etc.

I generally fish from the ALma Dam south to LaCrosse.

    Anxiously awaiting your reply.

Thanks for the advise Catdad. I’ll take it under advisement. If you’ve got a link or study for all to read I’m sure their are lots of cat guys who would be interested.

Nice fish. How big was that first one at the very top? He looks pretty large.

Jim Carroll here…on my way out to the Dunkirk PWT. Would have liked to have gone out last night and soaked some more bullheads with my buddy Flathead, but it just didn’t work out this time. We always have fun don’t we…How am I gonna top a 43#’r?

    Thanks, Dirk

Ya…Mike caught some nice channels. I was in too much pain from being run over by a four wheeler to fish effectively!!! If you ever see Mike riding Vick’s ATV watch out!!
