BrianK- you’re bringing back bad memories for me! I didn’t think we were ever going to get that eel out of Dave’s boat! We tried everything, until finally Dave said **** it,grabbed the thing and threw it back! Still suprised the thing didn’t whip around and take a bite!
Not so “weird”, but that’s been my only unexpected catch!

I was getting ready to launch at the old Shakopee ramp early last summer and a family of native americans were down on the boat ramp putting some kind of raft in the river with clothes, candles, and other crap on it. As you all know, I am the ever kind environmental engineer so I felt obligated to inform them that they can’t be putting their garbage in the river. The lady of the family proceeded to verbally assault me saying that they had every right to practice their religious rituals. I proceeded to disagree but I didn’t think it was worth calling the authorities on….

After launching the boat, we proceeded down river and removed the “trash” from an eddy about 1/4 mile downstream.

This could explain some of the clothes caught by others. Does anyone know how common this practice is by the local native american tribes?????

About 10 years ago I caught a flash light at Mille Lacs on the opener.

This past winter I successfully landed a rock on Mille Lacs. It fought pretty well.

So what exactly would this ritual be all about. Sounds to me like they were using their free pass card.

The only thing I can come up with that was remotely odd was a clam, but I know that isn’t exactly an odd occurrence.

Since then, that spot has been known as the carcass hole.

The real question is; was the fishing better around the carcass hole? Did big cats drag that deer and piglet down there? Do we have another case of the wily Midwestern Crocodile?

Yes, the fishing was good at the Carcass Hole. Otherwise we wouldn’t have bothered to name it. It was a fairly deep washout on the downstream side of a train bridge that collected plenty of debris. I’ve caught plenty of weird stuff there, from turtles to car parts. I like to think that, even to this day, flatheads are spawning in the backseat of a submerged Ford Fairlane beneath the train bridge.

That’s funny! I can imagine those 5 seconds must have been pretty frantic since herons are so easily spooked and you normally can’t get within 50 yards of them.

I guess you didn’t say “no man is an island” huh?

    That is funny.

I heard about a fella dosing and a beaver climb in his flatbottom…I don’t think the poop when they take off…but I know I would have.
