This last fall, I met a long time ‘sippi river catter that I’ve often heard stories about his catten adventures.
He hasn’t been around for a while, but snuck out of the house to do some late fall eye fishing. As we were talking about cats, he was saying that he started flathead fishing when the worms came out of the ground.

Jon Jordan just posted about the crawlers he picked last night.

I think the boat is coming home Tuesday night.

Glad I read this. After having a tough time finding Flatheads last year I was going to ask the question what water temps get the big ones coming out of the wintering holes to feed at night. I need to get an earlier start this year in hopes of getting some fish that are not camera shy.
I’m sure I will be on fish June 21st but hope to boat a few before then

Fishing and catching are 2 different things. Did he mention any catching when the crawlers first popped out?

The earliest I have been successful *catching* on pools 1 & 2 has been the 1st week of May in 05′. The fish turned on like a switch, I was activey pursuing them before that date that year. It went to no success, to very successful for the season from one day to the next.. literally.

Was the water warming up fast and do you remember what the water temp was when the switch turned things on Dave?

Uh, you want to set up a link to the thread on the St. Croix forum? I am not sure I know what you are referring to.

I think I’ll start trying for Olies as soon as the river is consistently between 50-55 for a few days. Probably mid to late April.

Thanks…I think? Tough to see someone catching one this early.

Pug, they will bite at this temp. Not much of a fight, but they do bite.

    Sounds like Mavzer

He likes to pretend like he knows what he’s talking about.

I can neither confirm or deny that statement.
