Channel cat of the year…

With the exception of some monsters that will come in on the Red this year..

I will be surprised to see another channel cat larger than this pool 2 monster caught by Chris this afternoon in my boat on a quick trip dragging a white ringworm on an ultralight and 4# test.

35″ length, 22″ girth? (if memory serves correct on girth), or 20# of channel cat!

same fish,it shows the size a little better…

and he also managed to hook into this *thing* on the same ringworm.. quillback? threadfin? thing? I have seen these many times over time, I just dont know what the proper name is.

stcroixer managed to have one walleye fall off the line hoisting it out of the water, that was the rest of the *catching* for the quick couple hour trip in the 65 degree heat. That channel really made it a memorable trip.

It was a pleasure sneaking out with you 2 for a couple quick hours this afternoon!

David you are going to have a visitor soon if you keep this kinda fishing up.. I have to get on open water soon!!!!!
Spent today swapping motors around on a couple boats and as one motor was hanging on the hoist and I was sitting in the boat I imagined it rocking in the waves..

Quillback Carpsucker! Those things are super cool. I luck into a couple each year. My buddy got one last year that was almost 8 Lbs… Woulda been a state record had he registered it.

Oops.. I gave some false info. It was a white paddle tail, not a ringworm, and about 21″ in girth.

    Still a huge channel!

The water temp was a balmy 36 degrees yesterday on this outing, the fish came from a small scour hole about 75 yards downstream of a shallower rock pile. I believe it was about 16′ of water. I noticed lots of fish were stacked up off the deep break heading out towards the main river channel. Breaks that went from about 7′-9′ to mid-upper teens in depth near major structures were holding the majority of mark-able fish. It seems the water is still too cold for any specie to be concentrating towards shallow water.

Good fishing coming in weeks to come. The fishing will probably be great when the temps reach the low-mid 40’s.

I am heading out later this afternoon Dave. Thanks for sharing what the fish are relating to, that’s sure to help when deciding where to go and what area to fish once I get there. I will probably end up at you know where if I don’t find them else where, but I think you know where might be a little crowded on such a nice day. Are you fishing today? (I know, dumb question). Chris and I will be heading out later in the afternoon and I have talked to Bob about possibly meeting up. If any one else fishing later this afternoon if interested, don’t hesitate to PM me or we’ll probably see you at some point.

Kind of weird that earlier this month when it got warm, the water warmed relatively fast. Now that there is more flow, the water temp seems to be just creeping up.

    Hi fisher dave,

This is Chris here. Thanks for putting STCROIXER and I on this monster catfish. If anybody’s looking to do some serious fishing, pm Dave. He had us grinning from ear to ear 15 minutes into the trip.

    Thanks again,

    Chris

    We make fishing fun…..

As Sherry said, we are havin issues with our video editing software.. one of those *new camera* things. I didnt get the fight on video(too worried about boat hitting shore on drift), but its a good video of you handling the fish, and us all dumbfounded by the size of the fish in the boat.

Congrats on one great cat. Pictures like that get me fired up to get back on the river. Ice is just starting to break up.
