In today’s Strib there is a big article about a proposed hydro plant, right next to or on top of the current fishing spot. I’m guessing this could mean big changes for a favorite fishing hole.

Can they do that with the lock right there?

It would have to be on the North side of the river…last I heard they need flow to run a hydro electric plant.

My thought, too. A hydro plant right beneath a lock won’t work too well.

Isn’t there already a plant on the north said? Oh me so confused. Maybe I should just read the article, eh?

    Generating power for 2000 homes?

Is it worth it? Kind of a drop in the bucket.

The plant sounds like it would be on the upper part and the discharge would go through the existing tunnels that water spills out of and into the canals. If anything, it might increase the flow in those canals, but they pretty much couldn’t handle any higher volume of water, so I don’t think that would happen. A possible plus would be that they would keep the flow at a high level to keep the turbines churning at a maximum rate. So during dry periods when the rest of the river is dropping, there would be a steady flow at MR to attract fish.

Give you one guess as to which 2000 ‘homes’. Anybody want to bet a quarter that it powers those godawful condos right around the corner?
