Stopped by Moore’s Bait this morning and picked up a new Surge rod and Black Catfish Trophy Collection 6500C3 with power handle and carbon fiber drag!
Spooled with 65lb High Vis PP, package of circle hooks, and out door for less than 2 bills!

I would like to thank all the guys sitting at my poker table Fri night at Treasure Island for their gracious donations

Sweet! Yeah those rods look pretty nice. Let us know how the 6500 cat performed!

He didnt have a problem casting the country mile this morning, and it showed bites nicely. I got to cast it once and it feels very nice.

I’d probably have a “New Toy” as well if it wasn’t for all the other “New Toys” I’ve HAD to purchase.

Lowrance LMS-334 and Ram Rod Holders add up to a nice chunk of change.

The MN, heck no! I’ve got my eye on some “choice” Pool 3 spots.

That 60 horse should push you around pretty well Hanson.

    The 60 does quite well.

Its an early 1980s Johnson 60hp so its a 2 cylinder. With 2 guys and gear in the boat, it’ll just edge itself over 30 mph (GPS speed).

Is the Surge 7’10” a 1 or 2 piece…..and Dtro is this your first baitcaster I’ve noticed you mainly use spinning reels.

No, I’ve used baitcasters in the past, mainly when I used to bass and musky fish a lot. I still own a couple of baitcasters. In fact the biggest flat I’ve caught was on a Berkely Big Game and Shimano Corsair 400.

A few years ago I fished with a guy that strictly uses spinning and last year I thought I’d give it a shot. They work fine and I have nothing bad to say about them. Just a change of pace I guess.
After playing around a bit with this new one, I’m tempted to get another one and sell my KingKat combos. I’ve got three of them, and there’s no use of them just collecting dust.
