Bait for the Sturgeon Excursion

I know a lot of guys bring crawlers for the sturgeon up there, but has anyone had success with other baits? The reason I ask is that I should not have a problem getting my hands on a lot of suckers/redhorse, and I was wondering if cut sucker/redhorse would work well up there.

I have had plenty of luck with cut bait on the St. Croix, so I thought it might be worth a shot, but I don’t want to haul a bunch of bags of cut bait if it isn’t a preferred bait.

Ralph, we caught TONS of redhorse and white sucker up there. They definitely showed a preference for crawlers.
    But that was last year.

Dave and I were just talking about this…

Crawlers seem to be the prefered bait in the spring.

Our boat like Tuck didn’t have any luck with cut bait.

Okay, thanks! I’ll save the redhorse for the kitties, then

I would love to talk a light walleye rod up there and just catch the suckers…but about the time I did that…we all know what would happen.

You can do that a lot closer than Baudette

    It’s a ton of fun.
