The SAF Water is a Warming

Checked out the temps at the SA falls and it is already pushing 40 and we had a sharp rise 8 degrees in about 3 days. I am not sure how accurate those readings are because I looked at last year and it was basically 32 until April 1st. I think I remember people questioning the accuracy last year as it was stuck on 32. So I think in the least it possibly does get “stuck” or frozen, if you will, at 32 sometimes. Regardless, I am working today in BC so I might swing by and check the ice conditions on my way home.

Yesterday I drove over the Lowry bridge. No ice anywhere South of it but the river was pretty well iced in North of the bridge.

Someone has a house boat on the river just South of the Lowry bridge.

I just checked Lock and Dam #1 (The Ford Dam) and the temperature there was 38.7 degrees. That temp at St Anthony is probably right. Lock and Dam #2 (Hastings Dam) was showing 33 degrees.

I fished near SAF today and I dont know about 40 degrees.. theres a lot of ice yet in the lock channel.. in fact, only about 100′ of fishable shoreline tops right now.

One chunk of ice about 40′ long broke free today and repositioned itself and it took about 3-4 hours to melt in front of a spillway.

The SAF area is not quite ready for a crowd yet.. very limited room to fish.

Next weekend looks good for the SAF/Mill Ruins area.

Something to keep mind with those temp readings. They are only getting the surface temp. with really low water. As the sun gets higher up you will see the temps rise. But… they are not a completely accurate reflection of the true water temp.

Maybe we can throw BK in on a rope to get a temp reading. Of couse after he tells us, we can always throw the rope in with him….
