Now that should be the next IDA/Moore’s cat outing. Anyone up for a road trip to Europe?

Whats an L? Only thing I know of is a liter which is a fluid measuring unit?

I checked out a couple conversion tables online and nothing stood out that the *L* could stand for?

I didn’t see that number anywhere all I saw was 2,46M which would be 2 1/2 meters… around 7 foot if my math serves me right.

It wasn’t in the video, it was in the Guide link that Larry provided…that was the cost of a guided trip. I still can’t find what the conversion is.

The lira (plural lire) was the currency of Italy between 1861 and 2002. Between 1999 and 2002, the Italian lira was officially a “national subunit” of the euro. However, physical payments could only be made in lira, as no euro coins and notes were available.

The lira was also the currency of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy between 1807 and 1814.

The term originates from the value of a pound weight (Latin: libra) of high purity silver and as such is a direct cognate of the British pound sterling; in some countries, such as Cyprus, the words lira and pound are used as equivalents. “L”, sometimes in a double-crossed script form (“₤”), was usually used as the symbol. It was subdivided into 100 centesimi (singular: centesimo), which translates to “one hundredth”.

Maybe they just say 650L to make it easier when in reality it’s 650,000L which would work out to $430 American and be about right for that service…

    I’d Pay it…

Wels eel, they are in europe and get even bigger than that one!

Hey BrianK, I wonder if they were using 80 lb power pro?

That is a good video. Its been out for a little over a year now. I think they are speaking Italian?

I’m not sure that they would appreciate them being referred to as Wells eels. (comparable to us calling our Cats rough fish)

I’ve included a link that doesn’t pertain to the actual video above, (see link at bottom)

Wells Catfish grow really large over 200lb plus.

check out the stats on this guy, (both cats and carp).

I was following him and his activities over the last year when I stumbled on his fishing services/expeditions on another web site.

Makes you want to go to the river Ebro in Spain and give it a shot.

Marc, you hit the nail on the head they do use 80lb. test. Though they call it Marine Braid. with a 8/0 short shank, wide gapped hook. 10-11 foot rods and Penn 330s.

Thanks Dark, those are cool videos.

Larry, I wonder if they had the microphone under water. Mine doesn’t quite sound like that. It makes a deeper sound, like when water drips into a tub of water, just louder and deeper. But after hearing that, I think making a long stroke horizontally through the water might be just as important as the pop. The streaming bubbles make a nice splashy sound. I got a camera for my work laptop, so I will maybe film a demonstration since the weather will be so nice this weekend. I might as well post it and get everyone’s jokes outta the way!

Was I correct in seeing that they were in about 10ft or 10 meters of water?

Maybe we should petition the MNDNR to have a new exotic species introduced!

Did anyone notice they have perch that look like ours! From this photo, wouldn’t you say the Wels cat is closer related to the flathead than a channel is related to a flathead?

I would have to agree with Pug on the similarities of the Wells to flats, looks so so. but if you checked out some of the other links and saw the smaller wells eating fish as big as thier own head it was enough say.. WOW!

I will be curious to see your clonking demo. Now we just have to hook you up with BK in a boat so you can shoot some under water footage.

Here’s my Feeble Attempt of a clonking demonstration. You really don’t get a very good idea of the sound it makes because I used a laptop cam and the compression from uploading to YouTube. But you’ll get the idea. The first couple of clonks though, I made a sound I never made before. It wasn’t a deep ker-plunking sound, but more of a snap.

Ok, try it now. I had the same problem viewing it from the PC downstairs. So I made the video public and it seems to be working. When I said feeble, I meant feeble.

    That was hilarious!!

Ya know what would be even more funny? You using that on out on a boat and catching a monster flat, which would result in all of us going out and purchasing one for ourselves!!

You could be a pioneer of the clonk in MN!
