Check out this interesting tool hummingbird smartcast sonar which may be useful for shore fisherman.

    Has anyone used one before?

It would be nice to see exactly what the depths are in certain river spots from year to year.

I haven’t seen one in action yet but a friend of mine has one and says he really likes it.

Be cool if you could get them mounted to a planer board?

I saw someone using it one time. Not sure how well it would work if you had any current, but at least it would give you an idea. You kind of have to dedicate a rod and reel to it too. It’s not necessary, but it helps.

My Fiance’s son got one of these a couple years ago as a gift. He used it religously… twice. I haven’t seen him with it since.

I know a couple guys who have them. I have only seen each of them use it once.

Sounds like another thing rolling around in the truck for me. I get depth estimates while shorefishing by letting my lure sink to the bottom.
