I was throwing some sarchasm into the mix Larry

There are lots of spots out there, and yes, spots do change annualy.. you couldnt be more correct on that!

With these extended boundaries, there are countless areas to fish with a good chance of sticking good fish. Boat fishermen, and people stuck to shore will have an excellent chance for a productive outing. Last year with the drought, the Mississippi was tough because of no current. We will see what mother nature throws at us this year.

If we get too much water(rain), the Mississippi river might be the place one needs to be for consitant action while the Minnesota looks like raging chocolate milk flowing through the trees.. I think we will have Steve Demars floating around in his new battleship on the st croix here and there which can produce fish to make our channel cats look like bait here and there.

Just never know who is going to get what and where.. Then consider BK might be fishing a few of these on P3 in his trusty spots that were producing 40+ pound fish nearly every trip 2 years ago. I have my shore spots that produce 20-40 pound fish at will when the bite is on. Dtro lives in prime cat country.. he knows every hole on the river, and everyone elses spots too from the area, Papa grump in the River pro, he doesnt have to worry about low water and can fish where we cant… Jake from sportsmans warehouse finds some monsters in my back yard in the toughest of conditions. Then theres Whisker Hooked with luck that would make a 4 leaf clover look bad.. she will catch a fish in a mud puddle.

Theres lots of knowledgable catfishermen, and several novice catfishermen all ready to get into some fish with th proper gear. Anything can and will happen on any given night!

I really look forward to the coming contest, I suspect the June contest might have insane results.

Thats how I took it, Its funny how tied to spots some people can get. The best part of the river is the fish are always on the move.

    Pug,
Your right your name needs to be on that list as well. I think I’ll add it in right after this post.
I hear by dub thee an IDA group hot spot.

I only have one request. IF any one pulls out Forked Y whisker also known as Lower Cleft Pallet. You need to photo and post the fish. BK hooked first. I got it again. It gained 5lbs in about 3weeks. So hypothetically it could be pushing close to or over 40lbs.
you will know it when you catch it.

Larry.. no BS, I caught a smaller flathead in that area 6 or 7 years ago with a forked whisker. I think I made that comment to Brian when I 1st saw the photo.

I think that fish is pretty set on that area. It could be different fish, but I doubt it being such a near location.

I have spent the last few hours drawing up what I hope will be the *final draft* of the contest rules and Contest dates for the metro area… Only 1 other cat contest coming besides the metro contest that will hopefully be finalized this week!

It might be some genetic evolutionary adapative thing. Forked whisker = more senses.
This fish I’m looking for can’t be missed Its lower Jaw is very much deformed. I bet someone will get it this year.
    I hope so any ways.

When we fished there Ron caught a fish, not sure if it is the same one you are talking about.

    Oh, yeah right!

I could see it know…fishing off the dock with a snoopy pole. Saying “I want a challenge winning this contest”.

Briank, I din’t know you were using those snoopy poles. I just wanted to let you know that the Barbie poles have a little better back bone for those bigger cats.

I am sure I will have an open seat here and there.. lots of good shore spots around that produce also. Where will be at contest time will be dictated by the current bite.. sometimes I am standing on shore raking fish in while others are covering miles.. and vise versa.

I’ll have room for 2 others any contest night I am in the boat.. when on shore theres all kinds of room.
